Default Seattle Boat Show

Just got back from a grueling trip to the Seattle Boat Show. Fishing buddy Phil has been seriously looking for his next boat. Friday PM we joined his father in-law Stan, who is a naval architect. Started out when the doors opened at 10 am Sat., and stayed for 10 hours.

Phil had narrowed his choices down to Seasport, Osprey, and Orca. So we spent a lot of time at these. Here are some shots of interesting sightings:

Hinckley "picnic boat" from east coast; kevlar fiber composite & resin.

Inside of Hinckley.

Quite a few big-boat aluminum builders, several from Canada.

This one is from Moose Marine. Note the "tuna tower" although they probably call it something else (Sasquach tower?).

This Boulton 34 was so shiny I had to turn the camera flash off.

Your truly...."Yep I'll take one.....if I win the lottery." I didn't even bother looking at the price.

Osprey 26 long cabin.

Seasport 30. Ready to uprade yet Marty?

Believe it or not, this one is called a Martini 21. Your drinks won't spill over as you putt-putt around at 4 knots. Stan is shown with collapsable, stainless crab pots from the Seattle Marine booth.

Oops...at the limit for images. See next post.

Couple more & the exciting conclusion..

New composite volvo duoprop outdrive. Rep said "they tested them for 2 years before releasing. Nope, none of them have broken."

One more fantasy boat

Albin 28. This has a keel & skeg, direct drive ZF gear box from a Yanmar diesel. Would be a great tuna boat except not much fish box/storage.

Looked at lots of gadgets:

Underwater camera with as much cable as you care to buy. Showed movies made with this pulled behind a downrigger. Has it's own light source for deep water. Peekaboo halibut anyone?

As I said, Phil was a serious customer. By a stroke of luck, we found out about a '98 Osprey 26 long cabin on consignment from one of the dealers at the show. Stayed another night to see it in the pouring rain Sun. am:

We crawled all over this thing. Phil put an offer on it, contingent on satisfactory survey. Now it's wait & see. This one has Volvo diesel & all kinds of fishy bells & whistles.

Next time, I'll set aside 2 days for that show. Just way too much to see in one day. Those are the Cliff's Notes; I'm going to sleep. Goodnight All!

Nice photos Mark I'm avoiding boat shows like the plague until my economy turns around. :depressed:

PS - 2 days won't do it either cause you need at least 2 more just to go through the BIG boats in the "on the water" show at lake union! It's really fun to tour the boats even if you aren't in the the market for that 50 or 60 something footer. I could just sit and stare at those big diesels for hours, then there's the woodwork of course.

Quick question?? When is the Seattle Boat Show over?? My boat goes in
for some work as soon as Andy comes back from the show, so timing will be
everything!

Mugwump:

That's OK, I don't think I'll be able to get my boat back from
Curry Marine before the weekend ... and then Andy will have about a
month to get it ready. Hope there's not TOO much to do to your boat!

Mark,
I believe that Boulton was the same one that was at the Portland Boat show. Talk about the Ultimate fishing Machine. I do believe the price on it was $260,000 for that one after being walked on in four shows. If you wanted a new one that hadn't been walked on it was $285,000. Heck when you spend that much whats another 15 grand for no footprints. There now you know the price as I just had to ask.

Wasn't that Moose Boats cat cool. I like the twin diesels with pumps. I asked the guy about fuel economy and his reply was that at the lower rpms that they were still behind a prop, but at cruising speeds...no worries.

Funny though, they made me take my shoes off before I climbed aboard. I am not even sure golf spikes could have hurt that tank.
