Re: General season...
I plan to make an attempt to kill a big one with the bow but time is short in August and once archery season starts I will be focusing on elk and deer. Saw an average bear this evening on the horses at about 50 yards. That is the first bear my horse has seen up close and she handled it well. I wish I could say that things went as well when I tried to shoot a coyote off her back earlier in the ride..... That is a whole other story! (I will post the story.)
My youngest son seems interested in killing a bear with his rifle so stay tuned for that.

Hope to bad my first! Hope he dont get ate before I can get him out.
We should have an IFish skinning party. I am concerned about the skinning process around the feet and head. Want to get a rug made with the head.

I'll be going deer and elk hunting with a bear tag in my pocket just in case I stumble into one!

Re: General season...
I can't wait to hunt too but the hides in August aren't really worth it and then I guess I'm hunting for a huge skull and some sausage meat. Ok, I guess it's worth it for fun.

Just made 52 pounds of Brauts and Italian Sausage last night from my Spring bear. Mmmmmmmmm! Ground 30 pounds of bear burger tonight. Mmmmmmmmm! Don't need another taxidermy bill this year so a bad hide suits me fine.
I've been asking my wife if she was interested in killing a bear for a while and she has always passed. About half way thru her Italian Sausage Dog last night she says "I might just have to kill a bear."

Yeah, too bad about the hides in the summer. All the talk about bear hunting at this site has got me all fired up. I never wanted to kill a bear because I thought they were marginal table fare, but you guys say they are great so I'm thinking/planning on going after one for real. It will add more hunting time to my life. Summer/Fall bears are a push-over in the berry patches. I think the hides are in better shape up in the Cascades as opposed to the Coast Range. So I'll try to go to a place I've seen them when I wasn't hunting and hope that red one I saw several years ago left some offspring with the same beautiful coat.
