Re: BARVIEW JETTY CRABBING
WEll the crabbing wont be from a boat. I will look at the South Jetty and look and see what I can do there. I know Crab harbor is on that side. If the wind and rain isnt too bad I can hoof it down there. Ill be there all weekend so I may just try it in both places.

Re: BARVIEW JETTY CRABBING
I've seen people do pretty good from the jetty using snares but the rings just end up stuck on the bottom. I've talked to several scuba divers who frequent that jetty and they said they usually end up collecting rings and lead weights(from fishing gear) every trip.

Re: BARVIEW JETTY CRABBING
Yeh, i was thinking the same thing with the rings after I posted the message. I would only use the snares out there with all therocks. I may just run over to the old coast gaurd pier and throw in the pot and then hit the jetty areas later.

Re: BARVIEW JETTY CRABBING
If you are land locked it may be worth your time to go crab on the docks in Nehalem Bay. Brighton and Jetty fishery are both good bets and being the off season so to speak you might get off cheaper than usual. The guys at Brighton have been real accomidating to me when I had to crab off the docks and even threw me a crab or two when it was slow.
Another note of caution. Even if it looks tame enough to go out on the jetty WATCH FOR SNEAKER WAVES! I don't want to read about you in the papers.
Good luck and have fun out there.

BARVIEW JETTY CRABBING
HAS ANYONE DONE ANY CRABBING OFF THE NORTH JETTY AT BARVIEW? I AM HEADING OUT THIS WEEKEND WITH RINGS, TRAPS AND SNARES TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO THERE. ANY THOUGHTS OR SUGGESTIONS?

Re: BARVIEW JETTY CRABBING
Just one suggestion ... if you are crabbing off the Jetty proper,
Be Very Careful!! Big swells out there right now!!

Re: BARVIEW JETTY CRABBING
thanks for the tip. I wont be venturing out too far. Although I can swim Id rather not see if I can swim in the strong ocean current after being swept off the rocks. I think ill be staying close to the parking area unless that is too rough as well. Who knows, I may get there and just watch the waves hit the rocks if Its not safe to go out.

Re: BARVIEW JETTY CRABBING
Baskett, why not the area along the beach south of the south Jetty? I think it might be knid of dicey on the north side.
If you do the S. Jetty, go for 40 ft of water and well out from the surf. I have caught many, many huge crab there.
