I'm working just southwest of Hood River and have a perfect view of Mt Adams. Better take my camera tomorrow!

Re: What's the Large Plume of Smoke? Fire?,
I would swear Mt StHelens. From the west side you can not see the top but the huge plume looked like an eruption.
From experienced Eruption watchers.

Re: What's the Large Plume of Smoke? Fire?,
My Dad lives up in the hills near Appleton, and has an awesome view of Mt Adams from his deck. He is about 25 miles from the fire, and could see the trees flare up through his binoculars. He said it looked like it was in tough terrain, and is waiting for a call to take water tankers to the fire.

Re: What's the Large Plume of Smoke? Fire?,
It's now reported to be 500 acres. They believe it started from a lightning strike from earlier in the month.

Re: What's the Large Plume of Smoke? Fire?,
Just got back from a drive up towards Windy Ridge. Took some pics of St. Helens and 6 elk in the canyon below. No smoke coming from St. Helens an hour ago Was a big plume to the east.

Re: What's the Large Plume of Smoke? Fire?,
Just got back from driving FR 54 out of Amboy and got 15 miles from Carson on the other side when we ran in to very large drifts at the 4500' level. The plume was large!

Re: What's the Large Plume of Smoke? Fire?,
As luck would have it, I was up in Trout Lake today on the motorcycle to do some fly fishing. On the way up, you could see that something was up but it was just getting started. While bobbing around in Goose Lake, the tanker kept making laps over the valley so we figured something was up. Every once in a while I would catch a glimpse of the cloud to the east, but I thought it was a thunderhead building up for a late afternoon rain. On my way back home, I stopped and got this shot:

Re: What's the Large Plume of Smoke? Fire?,
We were driving up to Bonny yesterday and could see it pretty clearly. Thought it might be Mt. Adams erupting then later heard it was the Trout Lake fire.

Chug, make that 6000 acres, and will most likely be double that by tomorrow with the weather that's coming.
