Exclamation Ozone cracking on tire sidewall

My trailer tires, especially the one which gets direct sunlight has sidewall damage due to ozone. These are Carlisle size: 5.30x12". The tires have heavy checking/cracking on the sidewall. They look bad.

A couple of tire experts gave me conflicting advice. One said this damage was only on the surface, but another dealer said it could be worse. Anyone know if these tires are safe. Thanks!

Weather checked tires can be bad news. If you are in doubt replace them.
The strength has been comprimised. I've had them fail on me once. better to fix in your driveway that on the road.

You should change your trailer tires every 4 years, I went 5 years with my last set and had a blow out. This is what the tire guy told me and with a7500 pound trailer I won't take the chance again.

Unless you plan on moving the boat into a shed, I'd suggest you fashion some sort of cloth or vinyl tire covers for when the boat sits in the driveway. RV places would have something.....

And don't take a chance, replace 'em if they're checked. Having a blowout isn't just a pain, and spendy, it can also be dangerous. Just my

Thanks for all your advice. I decided to replace one of the tires-the one which received most of the sunlight. I have purchased a tire cover to keep them new. Patman
