New tow rig ...
Bought a new tow rig yesterday (01/14/03)!! This one ought to
tow my 30', 6.5 ton boat a little better! 2003 Chevy Duramax Diesel
3/4 ton Heavy Duty with the Allison trany.
Now, if I can just get used to driving a diesel rig after driving gas
rigs all my life. Gotta really push that ol' throttle DOWN to get it
to pull off the line like my 6 liter gas engine did!

Re: New tow rig ...
Sounds nice but I do not want to take on a third job to pay for for one.

Re: New tow rig ...
I am green with envy. I have a 3/4 ton Surburban with a 454 to haul my 6600 lb Trophy, but it is slow and easy does it. I think your rig might be just the ticket, perhaps next year.

Re: New tow rig ...
hey fish
keep an eye on the gas attendents and make sure they grab the diesel and not the gas..i've had that happen quite a few times...
you'll love the diesel...when you get to a big hill just stick your foot in it and go....
have fun

Re: New tow rig ...
FA You don't want no stinkin Duramax to pull your boat. Let me know where you live and I'll come over and haul it off for you so you can save the cost of removal.

Re: New tow rig ...
Great truck, Hopefully Chevy has got it right this time getting Isuzu to make the engine. A dealer friend says the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same as a 454. So if your engines in the boat blow up you can steal the truck motor.
I heard the the 2002 models had some tranny and head gasket problems. I hope you bought the extended warranty. I think that a lot of guys don't give the new diesels enought revs to keep the engine in the power curve.

Re: New tow rig ...
FA,
If you want that truck to last a very long time, forget mashing that peddle to get off the line fast. Driving a diesel requires a whole new mentality to driving. Take your time getting going, slow gradual accelaeration, then once rolling you can fly on the top end. All that torque to the tranny with no load is not good for longevity.
Enjoy!

Re: New tow rig ...
Fish,
Is Chevy still making their pickups with heated tailgates? (just kidding) Personally, I have always had a ford powerstroke and I love towing things with a diesel. My excavation sub-contractor tow's a mini-excavator with his new duramax and it weighs 17,000 pounds. He says he loves it so I hope you have as good of luck with yours.
PS. Fords new powerstroke has more horsepower.
