Default 115 merc tiller handle shifting.

I have a 115 merc (pump), and i just replaced the spring on the shifting handle of the tiller, but now to get it to start i have to lift up on the nob when in neutral to engage the starter. What do i need to do to fix that problem.

thanks
rivermaster.

Do you have a nuetral start switch. I had 115 and the switch was on the port side of the engine. If it is not engauging the switch the motor wont turn over.

no switch that i can see, and I can get the starter to engage and start the motor but i have to lift up slightly on the handle that shifts from neutral to forward to reverse when it is in the neutral position. its like there is not enought tension pushing up on the shifter in the neutral position.

thanks for the help.
