Default Bamboo Halibut rod

I was talking to a friend of mine about a trip I am taking in august halibut and salmon fishing in port hardy BC. . He told me he had some poles and gear he would sell me cheap. I went over their yesterday to take a look. He had 3 poles with penn long beach 65 reels. One of the poles is bamboo and has a wood butt section on it. I gave him $60.00 bucks for the two fiberglass poles and reels including 5 cigar boxes of jig heads and bodies. Did I mention they have never been used. Well he throws the the bamboo rod and reel in with it saying he has no use for it. It's a nice looking setup dont know if I should use it. Looks a little fragile and has to be pretty old.

Troller Can you post a picture of the rod and reel? I may be interested in it if you decide to sell it.

Can you say "snap, crackle, pop" ? I think I'd be putting it over the Mantle. See if you can find out some info on it (make/age etc). With fishing lures selling for a thou and up on e-bay, who knows what ya got there?

Just got to thinking, is that thing a split bamboo rod, or is it just a hunk of a bamboo tree. Trying to remember but it seems like I've seen a bamboo rod that was just a section of a solid bamboo pole some where in the distant cobweb past.

I will see if I can find anything more about it. It is six sided about 6 feet in length. I will see if I can borrow my buddies digital camera I dont have my own yet. I dont even have a computer at home. I work on them all day long and dont want to look at one when I am not at work. Actually I would probably be addicted to the web if I had it at home.

Troller, you have a split bamboo Tonkin Cane rod. Worth $$$$$ to tackle collectors. Keep it safe until you find a pigeon with some $$$. Don't fish it or you will break it.
