Default vhf problems

After I installed a vhf radio I could hear the tick tick tick of the fishfinder. I know it's the fishfinder because when I turn it off the noise stops. The boat is a center cousole so I wasn't able to seprate them by much space. The antenna is mounted about 4' from the fishfinder toward the front of the boat. Anybody got any ideas of how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

they both plug into the fuse box on different connections. The ground might be the same connection, though thanks I'll try changing it.

I once had a problem with alternator noise showing up on the fishfinder. I installed a filter (which is just a capacitor) in the power line, and it took care of it. I can't remember how I decided on the size (# of micro farrads) of the filter. This was like $3. from an auto parts store.

Your problem could relate to the quality (or lack thereof) of the shielding somewhere between the antenna & the connection to the radio. If that's the problem, I'm not sure if a filter in the power line will help.

Just some guesses....
