Post OTC Newport - Midweek tuna
Anyone planning to stick around after OTC to fish mid week? I'm planning on running at least 4 days (Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday). Will be in Newport for a week, perhaps two...depends on how the Little Italy fleet starts doing and the weather windows.
Not looking for crew, just wanting to know that they will be other boats on the prowl. If YOU are short of crew and I'm not running, I'll be pleased to crew for you though.

Re: Post OTC Newport - Midweek tuna
I'll be staying at the marina camping area for the next couple weeks, on call if the tuna are nearby. Hoping to see a few more boats heading out when I'm running.

I'm watching the conditions too, and will be over if things settle down and the warm water moves back in.

It's looking pretty nice through the middle of the week. Can't wait much longer, waiting is getting expensive.

I'm done with this crap...we're headed south on Wed next week if the wind show does not stop.
It costs less to fly down to Cabo and fish good water than it does to stay here and pay $4.75 a gallon. Running 50+ miles in the slop sucks anyway you slice it!
Big D...what you say about that? Cabo is empty but the big Dodos and Wahoo are arriving daily!

By jove, you are on to something there Bud!! You get to fish on good water in shorts and flip flops. Yeah, the flight might not be cheap, but its worth it.
Fuel is cheap down there too. I couldn't believe we were paying the equivalent of about 2.50/gallon last month.

The simple fact that you know you can fish one side or the other...with the slow economy in Cabo, deals are there for those who ask.

There is no end to what the other costs can be...that depends on your moral compass

Re: Post OTC Newport - Midweek tuna
By the way, thanks for the tips about Cabo Bud. My first time last month was truly primo.
Slower economy is right. On the days when I had to take my wife shopping, while she was in the Flea Market, I would wander down on the docks. After talking to captain after captain (or the managers), you can really get to know who is willing to deal and who is not. Most of the guys who would talk straight with you would put together cheaper, shared charters without much trouble. I found one guy the day I left who would take his nice 24' walkaround out there for half what I was getting quoted from most other guys. I didn't have time to fish an extra day out of Cabo b/c of two day trips out of San Jose though.
Sorry for the full-blown hijack, by the way.

Okay, here's the line you always get while walking down the sidewalk. Almost always in this order, but without lines 2 and 3 if you are walking beside your wife.
"Ju vanna bracelet?" No, I reply.
"Ju vant some veed?" No, I reply.
"Ju vant some chowgirls?" No, I reply.

I have vacation saved just for this purpose. The boat is ready and I can be too on 48 hours notice.
The next nice couple of days don't bother looking for me at work.

You forgot... "Ju vant some blow?" 'Ju vant to go fishing?" "Ju vant to ride ATVs?"..."Ju vant the last mexican virgin?"...the coyotes are a funny lot.
Dan...mid week in Cabo?

So Dave, you good to go in November? I have the boat reserved, John says he has space, just need to see if I can arrive a week earlier...
Bud, I couldn't agree more. Even with airfare, it costs us less to fish a day in Cabo that it does to fish here unless the fish are close, and the water decent. And yeah, you do have to watch that moral compass. "Bracklet? Sunglasses? Someting else?????"
Dave, what was the quote of the trip from a street vendor? "Hello my friends, welcome back, my sister will be so happy to see you!!!"

Re: Post OTC Newport - Midweek tuna
Yep making fun of the coyotes is almost as much fun as fishing....almost. The one about his sister took the cake though.
Tim, yes, I'm working on getting the Admiral's approval for a little November visit to the Cape. She will have her hands full with our new baby, I shouldn't have any trouble getting away.
The hijack continues...

I have a charity fishing trip on Wednesday, I'd bail on that except the crew that bought it are flying in from Boise. I can leave Thursday morning.

Well...I dig it the most! 6 seats sold out quick as the summer frustration builds among Oregon tuna fishermen.
If another ship of fools wants to head south...we can point you in the right direction but don't expect a cruise director.
Team Tall & Bald(s) vs Team Toro Bravo! 3 man crews on equal boats...can you see where this is going?

Hey Dave. When are you guys gonna be down there? I'll be down there with my wife and daughter for 9 days over Thanksgiving week. I'm also thinking about heading down a week early (my wife suggested I go get the the boat ready and find the fish before they get there so that I'm all dialed in and don't waste "family time"... ).

Hey Triple C. Too bad we're not all down there at the same time, would make for great bull sessions and BBQ's at John's. We could assign Tracker BBQ duty. We were just there (m me, FishBaja, Second Season and Teton) and I'm headed back down in November with the family. BTW, we do have the name and number of a good panga skipper. He fishes out of Cabo San Jose, and FishBaja has been fishing with the same guy for 28 years. We also sometimes put him on our boat down there to help us locate the fish and get current during the first day or two. Good luck!
