Name for new boat ????????
Everyone who has been reading my posts knows i have a new boat.
My boat has no name.
The names i see on the water and on this board are creative and interesting.
" Miss Behaven"... good one ,,,, "ugly Green" ... good one .... ect ... ect...
Last summer i took my boat to fish (buoy 10 ,and the C.R. area). The boats that were fishing with me needed something to call her. They instantly started to call her "Greenie". Yes you guessed it , my boat is green,(top and decal).
Im not sure if this name should stick. It almost seems like a cop-out.
Should i continue trying to give her a contrived name like "mid-life" (absolutly the only other name ive come up with) or just relax and let a name like "Greenie" end the quest?
I owned a 1973 galaxy 500, for 10 years , in the 80s, and yes it was also called "Greenie"
So give me your thoughts. Is "Greenie" too stupid. Ive never named a boat before. id. painter

Re: Name for new boat ????????
id - Not sure you REALLY want me (or the board) to help on this. The last guy I "helped" name his boat (Gus Orviston on ifish) ended up with "Fun Gus" (say it as one word) . Fortunatley he has a good sense of humor. The thread ended up rather long but we had a good time!
Here's his Avitar:
And here's a link to the thread. Acutally a lot of ideas on here: http://www.ifish.net/ubb/ultimatebb....492;p=3#000083

Hmmm- Archive links are dead right now. THey just archived all the 2002 stuff AND upgraded the software. Might take a while to work this out.
Double Hmmm.. Apparently some of the links are working, but not this one!

My next one is going to be the "DogHouse" seeing as how all the trouble my boat gets me in with the Missus (never home on time).

Re: Name for new boat ????????
There's one in Garibaldi called 'Crab-E'.
But my favorite is the troller that survived it's owner of 40+ years .... 'Hardship'. It sits now in Garibaldi, unused and too tough to die.
'Hardship' ..... now that's a great name. Boat names are tough. I think the name should be chosen with great care. Irony helps make a great name.
Don't be in a hurry IDP, the name will come to you in good time.
A friend of mine bought a drift boat some 10 years ago. He talked me into attending the maiden voyage. We were going to troll the Mult. Channel near Larsens marina and went there to launch. We backed down the ramp (yes the dirt, 4 wheel drive ramp) and near the bottom the boat leaped off the roller trailer.
I heard a crash and looked back to see the as yet unnamed boat skittering across the water towards a bridge piling. Just then another boater was coming in and grabbed the wayward Clackacraft. It seems Robert had undone the straps and tiedowns on the roller trailer before we backed down the ramp. He held the rope which was ripped out of his hands as the boat flew off the trailer.
We fished but did not catch that day and the boat was none the worse for wear. He christened it 'Auspicious' and has loved it ever since.

Ok - so now that I feel stupid and got a lesson in the finer (proper) ways to search the archives (and in half switched over archiving procedure), here is the real link to the boat name post. Lots of this is fun and BS- but there's some real good (serious) ones two id. Have fun. Might keep you busy (and sane) till Tuna Town opens up again.

Re: Name for new boat ????????
Teacher right? How about "Finals Week" or "Summer Vacation" or "Biology Class" or "Teachers Pet" or "That'll Teach'em" D
Oh ya- one very important thing about a boat name. Make sure it's easy to say and understand on the radio. Otherwise everyone will either shortcut it (which may be ok) or just call you by your name on the radio anyway (which may be ok too). What's not OK is if no one knows what the heck your trying to say if your calling them (or calling the CG in an emergency). You definatley want your buddies and the CG to understand it's you who is calling for them.
I know some folks who named their boat after a city in Finland (the boats a Viking) -not pretty to say at all lemme tell ya!
"That'll teach'em" is probably one of those which fits in the "doesn't roll off the tongue nicely" group.

" Teachers Pet " nice, "Green Potato" very good...... and the others also.. Thanks
Im only in a hurry to get a name to keep "greenie" from sticking.
My wife suggested the "Mistriss", my only suggestion was the" mid-life" , my father suggested the "Mid-life mistress" I think maybe ,with some help, ill end up with a good one. id. painter

Re: Name for new boat ????????
If you plan to take up tuna fishing,
Green, lookin for blue
Tell us some more stories, that is a better way to name a boat than just picking a cool name. Better to have something dumb with meaning than something cool that you picked out of a list or a book.
Threemuch II: One more than Too much (a word made up by a close friend who didn't speak english very well) and the original threemuch had three owners.

Re: Name for new boat ????????
The story i seem to be stuck on lately is my neck story. Its not a very happy story, although it has a happy ending.
To go thru a life changing event like that is wild.Talking about it has helped me deal with it.
For almost 9 months ive been calling myself "crippled". I have been left with a gimp left leg , Hoffmans and a numb right hand as well as all the other less obvious damage. I have had to learn to walk again. Tough duty comming back from being damaged so bad.
For the first time the word "crippled " fell from my wifes mouth about a week ago. She started to cry,
when she realized what she had said.
Im still very much in therapy, (self induced). I walk, i just moved my down-riggers , and added some rocket launcher rod holders to my boat.
Just being able to hold and tighten a screw is thrilling. Im getting better, look out tuna.
Ill come up with some happy stories , too. id. p.
