Cheap Railroad Ties?
Anyone know of a cheaper place to get railroad ties for a landscape project than $19.97 at Home Depot?
I need about 50 total
Thanks, Brad

Re: Cheap Railroad Ties?
There is a discount place in salem on portland road. They had railroad ties for 10.00 each. they had a pile of them out by the road. Heck if you buy that many they may even give you a better deal.

Re: Cheap Railroad Ties?
I found some nice Garcia Ties on eBay for about $5, but haven't seen railroad ties there.

Re: Cheap Railroad Ties?
Brad,
Check craigslist in both Portland and the gorge. There is a guy out of The Dalles that did all the salvage along I84. You can get them for $11. He only sells units of 25. I bought 100 and they are in very good shape.
I am heading that way tomorrow. If I can find his number on one of the stacks I will post it here.

along side the freeway between Hood River and The Dalles on the right hand side (if you're east bound) there are bundles of them spray painted "4 sale" with a number. i have any immediate plans to run to The Dalles in the next day or so but if I do, I'll try to jot down the number if the other poster doesn't get a chance.

Brad - I've got 4 extras left over from work in my yard. You're welcome to them, just come out to Forest Grove and pick em up - heavy suckers.

Re: Cheap Railroad Ties?
Brad I would not use them at all myself, they will attract carpenter ants after a while if they don't already have them inside.
I see this every day doing inspections.

Re: Cheap Railroad Ties?
Okay, here we go... There are strapped bundles of ties in The Dalles. The phone number is available from me by PM. The guy's name is Mark. I bought 4 bundles from him in March. They are good farm grade ties that I will use for cross fencing.

Re: Cheap Railroad Ties?
We drove way out North Columbia Blvd yesterday, the Union Pacific property out there had hundreds of used ties stacked in the lot, ought to give UP a call maybe.
