It's just a matter of time and money. The compression is good and there was no metal in the oil of the lower unit so it will cost hundreds, not thousands .
I bought the service manual and I'll figure it out. I feel good about doing the work myself as I plan to take her to blue water and need to know that motor like the back of my hand. I need to buy a few specialty tools so I cam maintain the oil injection system and replace the water pump but I'll get them and have the boat ready before March when I have promissed to take my son bottom fishing for the first time.
I am delighted with the boat and how she handles. The modification list isn't too long. I have a Furuno 1621 radar system to mount after I can afford a mount. I want to add trim tabs and a crab pot puller/down rigger combo and maybe a stern rail. One of those big ol' Tuna boxes for sure and an auto pilot is in the works. Also a vented teater that I can at least warm a pot of coffee on too.

Don't worry about me, this is going to be a Happy New Year indeed!
