Default Lavro Lazy Drifters?

A big thanks to all that responded to the topic I posted about Clacka's and Willies I've seen a few Lavro Lazy Drifters for sale in the past couple months and I'm wondering if these are a good DB to start out with? They don't seem to cost a fortune used so I'd like to hear some of your opinions on these boats.
Thanks

I used to have an Eastside and they are very close to the same .You will love it . A fiberglass will be easier to row than an alum . It has a slicker bottem than alum . Fiberglass can be drug over rocks with no damage to the bottem . It will look rough , but there will be no structural damage.Enjoy and good luck .
P. S. I have rowed a lot of alum . boats and ther is no compairision .

lavro is a very tough duroable drifter, i owned one that was 25yrs old and loved it! passed it on to my son for his first drifter. you cant hurt them. i would say you would be making a good choice.

I've got a Lavro. It's the flyfishing model, but I think the hull profile is the same. Stout boat, handles extremely well, comparable weight to the Clackacraft I use to have. I think the Lavro is a little stiffer than the clack. Handling is excellent.

In 82 I had a 16' outfitters dory (Lavro), I used it on the north santiam for three years, A little heavy but the tuffest glass Driftboat made IMO

I've got '76, 16' guide model (wider bottom back them)that we've had for 19 years. They're a heavy boat, but they track very well, quiet (like all glass boats) and very well built. Check the seattle PI classified sections soon. They sell for about 2K, and they're the best used boat "deal" out there.

I used to fish out of a 16 wide model alumaweld,
and I liked it, I started fishing with a buddy in a 15 foot lavro. I sold the alumaweld.

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with Lavro boats. They are built very well. I have heard reports that they are heavy but I've never confirmed that myself. On the positive side, there are lots of 20 year old Lavro's around which proves their durability and toughness. I prefer Clackacraft for two reasons, 1) they are close to Portland which means that I am buying locally 2)I believe that Lavro uses a foam core bottom (not sure on this one) and I prefer the solid glass bottom of the Clack. Remember, these are just my opinions. Lavro makes a good boat and I wouldn't be afraid to own one.

Good Luck,
Doug

Thanks guys,
At first I thought that Aluminum would definately be the way to go but now I'm not so sure. For our first boat it would probably be nice to have a highly manuevable one because I imagine we'll be needing to dodge rocks and hit our fair share. Clacka's are definately a sweet boat but I'm not sure it's in our budget. Is there anywhere you can pick up a nice used Clacka for a decent price?
thanks

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">From Lavro's website (www.lavroboats.com under the section "Why Lavro?"): "Better than other glass boats because we do not use balsa wood, foam or other core materials in the bottom which can absorb moisture if punctured."

I work across the street from Lavro and drool over them every day. I found a good deal on a Lazy Drifter last week but I don't have a suitable place to keep one yet. Soon.
