4 down, 1 to go. Looks even at this point.

Re: UFC Tonight
ever since rampage left pride, he's settled down
quite a bit and really has developed into a classy
cat. i have a feeling though a rematch is already
in the works a few ufc's down the road.
i strongly felt though that an overtime round should
of been awarded, something the fans would of
really like too. despite all the decisions, wasn't
a boring card at all.

Re: UFC Tonight
Great fight!!!
Although I think forest won because of his pace and how badly he hurt rampages leg, I don't feel Forest performed enough to take the belt.
I think a win should be more dicisive to earn a belt. They both faught hard and I think Dana and the UFC wanted Forest to win for the income potential of a rematch. I'm not saying it was rigged, but I don't feel that the champ was beat.
Rampage said he would give up his purse and his trainer also said he would retire if the fight went to a decision and rampage lost. Goes to show, it's never a good idea to talk s*^*!
Both fighters are a real class act. I think Dana and the UFC deserves some credit for the sportsmanship we see time and time again from the fighters. This sport has some great role models for the young folks out there.

I agree 100%. If that had been a non-title fight, I would have agreed with the decision. But, I always thought, it was up to the challenger to TAKE the decision in a title fight.
Either way, good fight and I will look forward to the rematch.

Re: UFC Tonight
The Rampage fight just goes to show you never leave the fight in the judges hands. I can't see how they scored that. Rampage knocked Forrest down in the first and was only kicked in the legs. To me, it would seem that Rampage had the edge in that round. Still it went to Forrest?
The Champ usually has the edge when it comes to decisions and in this case no. It was a solid fight by Forrest yet I can't see how he won those rounds the way the judges did. Good for Forrest yet Rampage will win the rematch coming soon.

Only kicked in the legs.... I think those leg kicks completely altered Rampages ability to strike, and I'm pretty sure it was those leg kicks that led rampage to say he got his a** beat.
I remember when I was younger and we would knee each other in the leg to give one another a charlie horse, and it hurt. I mean, it really hurt. Most guys would drop to the ground.
I wonder how rampage would respond if he was told he was "only kicked in the legs".
That being said, I think we both agree, Cutting Point, rampage wasn't beat.
The rematch will be awesome and I'm betting on Rampage.
Who's house are we watching it at?

Lets get the Ifish fight night going. There is a landslide of fights coming up really quick. PM me.
What I meant was that a knock down should be given more points than leg kicks. Leg kicks are nearly the same as jabs on a point scale or at least it seems to be that way.
Now, the leg kicks were deffinatly brutal because Rampage has already been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left leg.

Re: UFC Tonight
I thought Forrest fought Rampage in the ONLY way he could have and won. It was a perfectly executed strategy. It was close, but I thought Forrest won. And I like both fighters, and would have been happy with either as the champ.
By the way, for all you guys that think that a close decision shouldn't earn you a belt, what do you suggest? Make the decision the other way because Jackson was the champ? Declare Griffin the winner but not give him the belt?
I really like both fighters, and this season's TUF show solidified my opinion of both guys. I like the way they fight, I like the way they act outside the octagon. Did you see when they had them play HORSE? Griffin BURIED Jackson. When Griffin dunked to finish him off and Rampage didn't even try, it was hilarious.
I saw that Forrest made 250K and Rampage 225K. Yowch. Somebody is really lining their pockets with these guys blood. That is RIDICULOUS small money when you consider how much boxers make, and you consider than MMA is rapidly catching up with boxing in terms of revinue.

Careful what you wish for.
I thought it was a close fight, that could have gone either way but at my house, (with a MMA fighter in attendance) we had it scored for Forrest.
However, the concept that to take a belt away, you have to do more than just win on points, is a concept that runs deep in the boxing ring. It is also that concept that leads to other considerations being taken into account, and ultimately, IMHO, leads to the very questionable decisions you see in boxing. In football, baseball, soccer, or any other sport, a champion is judged by being ahead at the end of the match, by ANY margin, even if over the previous champion. As soon as you let judges take other considerations (current belt holder, crowd favorite, home town fighter.....) into account, there is no stopping "fixed" or slanted outcomes.
If you agree with the outcome as a non-title fight, you should reconsider if it is correct and fair to judge it any other way in a title fight.
AND...... Looking forward to a rematch. Forrest better come prepaired to do more, or finish it on the ground when he gets a chance. He can not hope to stand and strike with Jackson and not get hurt and risk a TKO.

I hadn't thought about it that way, but you are absolutely right. The challenger having to "take" the decision does stem from the boxing days. I would hate to see MMA resemble some of the boxing decisions we have seen over the years. MMA fights, title or non-title should be decided on purely scoring.

Re: UFC Tonight
My own myopic view is that a close decision is kind of like a field goal with time expiring, a last second 3 pointer, Olympic divers needing a perfect 10 to win, etc.
If you leave it up to judges or the last second or whatever, perhaps you should have done more leading up to that point. Both these fighters know how decisions can go, so one or the other should have taken more risk, been more agressive, etc. to take it away from any third party.

Yep, huge card. It will be interesting to see if Affliction can keep having such events. This is a huge event for them, but not sure if they can keep up this kind of event. I think this may end up being a make or break event for Affliction. UFC had talked abaout a big, free, event at the same time to try and undercut the Affliction event, but I dodn't think they were able to put it together.

Re: UFC Tonight
No, the UFC did put one together on the 19th the same night, is will be a good card also. I will watch the free one (UFC) but I would like to see the Affliction one. I believe Affliction has signed alot of good talent and will be a big competetor for the UFC, but the UFC will be the power house for awhile longer...

Great to hear, thanks CW. I could have looked it up I guess. Is it still a Vera/Silva fight? I suspect that there is still plenty of interest and room for more cage fighting organizations. Per Threemuch's note above, more venues should help fighters get a decent pay check. I think that Dana White had things so wrapped up for a while, that it made it hard, if not impossible for a fighter to negoiate by weighting options.
Speaking of great cards and other organizations, did anyone see the WEC WrekCage fight on the 2nd? Short 1 hour event, but 3 fights that were, to me, as entertaining as the Forrest/Rammpage card. The Ian McCall/Ox Wheeler fight was incredible, albeit one sided. Ian McCall's debute on WEC, he's an incredible fighter. One to watch at 6:0.

Re: UFC Tonight
I watched last weekends fight and will say I thought it was a good card all the way.
I will say that to me it was real apparent that the UFC and the crowd wanted Forrest to win. I like Forrest and was hoping he would beat Rampage, but I didn't see him do it I saw a fight that Rampage won. I figured the fight would go 48-47 to Rampage at worst (with Forrest winning the 2nd and possible the 5th) but to listen to Rogan call the fight it was clear they wanted Forrest to win. I just didn't see what Forrest did in the fight to score points and to win the fight. He had some great leg kicks in the 2nd and a couple more in later rounds. But to me it looked like Forrest was afraid to throw hard punches because he was afraid of being caught. You even heard his corner tell him to slap punch more and night try and push through his punches because he was getting caught. What I saw was Rampage hitting Forrest hard and often (Forrest can no doubt take a punch). I saw round one and clearly for Rampage and round two clearly for Forrest, both could have went 10-8 but I didn't think either should.
The only thing Forrest did after the 2nd round was a few kicks most of which were missed and a triangle choke attempt in the 4th when Rampage had him down and was pounding him a little. Forrest's choke was no better than Rampages almost slam.
I just no way can see how a judge could have the score 49-46 Forrest.
I know this was a huge win for the UFC their show the ultimate fighter help bring the UFC into the main stage and has helped make the UFC so big. Now there boy from the Ultimate fighter is the champ, its huge for the UFC. How can you not like Forrest. And yes I think Rampage was smiling at the end of the fight thinking about the big pay days he has coming. I just don't want to see the UFC become another WWF.
It simple you never want to let the judges decide. Look at the Hamill VS Bisping. No matter how much you detroy the crowd favorite you can lose.

Re: UFC Tonight
I don't disagree with your main point Amerman, never let it go to the judges. Once it does, anything can happen. I did see the fight differently that you did, but that is exactly the problem with allowing a fight to go to the judges. In a fight that is close, subjectivity (and sometimes other factors as I mentioned above including home town favorites, sentimental favorites etc) could play into the scoring. I would much rather have seen this end earlier (ok, not much earlier).
Funny note. My 15 year old daughter predicted the fight this way. She said that if Rampage didn't end the fight in the first by TKO, it would go to the judges. This in front a group at my house including an MMA fighter. I pulled her aside, and said "keep in mind, this is a 5 round fight, with two big hitters, it will never go the distance...." At the end of the fight, she looked at me and said "In your face Dad!" Time to send that one to boarding school........

Re: UFC Tonight
What Ammerman said.
Ibarra is protesting the scoring right now.
It seems that Dana or the UFC wanted an ultimate fighter contestant to become a champ to justify that show.
No question the scoring was close, but it seems before the decision was made that Jackson won at least 3 out of the 5 rounds.
Had Liddell been champ, do you think the decision would have gone Griffens way? In any case, it's over now and Rampage will get that rematch.
Affliction Banned will be the most stacked fight card since....ever. How can they top something like that?

That's the card, should be good, I think and hope James Irvin will beat Anderson. But will see, Irvin is a good stand up fighter I don't think Anderson will stand with him, yes Anderson has great stand up also but I think he has an advantage on the gorund, also he is a very smart fighter so that is why he would take it to the ground....

Yeah, good card. A little surprised to see Jesse Taylor on the card, wasn't sure that Dana would have let me fight again in the UFC.
That Afflictions card in incredible. I didn't realize that Babalu ended up over there. No wonder it is called "Banned". Anyone planning on trying to get together and share costs??

I'm glad to see him there. I felt bad for the guy. He's a big dumb goof ball that is a physical phenom. That combo equals entertainment and Dana knows it. They could make millions from a reality show of him getting drunk day after day. He's like a 5 year old in a mans body.

I hope the Vitor Belfort fight is shown, if he can get back to where he was in the past he is very dangerous..... Superidiot. I cringed when I heard he had a son he was responsible for. I didn't feel bad for him, I felt bad for his kid.

Re: UFC Tonight
The Affliction under card will be shown free for those who have HD net. Not sure if that falls under Dish network or Comcast, but it does not come with Direct TV (which I have).
Aleksander Emelienko vs. Paul Buenetllo
Nog vs. Dewees
Belfort Vs. Martin
Those 3 fights alone are worthy of their own ppv.
Instead of Banned it should be called Top This.

Re: UFC Tonight
We're getting close. It's going to be a great weekend of fights!!!
CBS has been advertising some upcoming fights also. This is great to see the sport growing so fast. The UFC can no longer decide who we see and who competes against who.
I think the CBS fights will include Nick Diaz. That guy and his younger brother are tough fighters. They are great to watch. I've been wondering where Nick has been. He must have been shut out of the UFC, but thanks to CBS, he's back!

Re: UFC Tonight
Can you guys fill me in on when the upcoming fights are this weekend? I have not seen fights recently. I don't do the pay-per-view, but usually catch them on Spike on Sundays and Wednesdays....and an occasional Saturday. Please help. I love this sport.

There is a free UFC event at 6pm on Saturday. Check out www.ufc.com for the fight card. On the same night there is a pay-perview event called Affliction that has an awesome fight card.

Re: UFC Tonight
You may want to find a friend or five who will split the Affliction fight with you. It's one loaded card. That said, as mentioned the UFC is trying to undercut the event with a free 3 hour event. Both Saturday night.

Re: UFC Tonight
The wait is killing me.
Tim Sylvia was holding his own against Nogueira a few months back untill he got caught. I figured Nog would have took him out in round 1.
Fedor has not fought a top 10er since Cro Cop. That was in 06? Big Tim is fresh off of all kinds of competitive fights. Loss or not he has fought pretty well against some good opposition.
Sylvia is the underdog and if there was any way Fedor isn't taking him seriously, this could be the biggest mma upset of all time.

Re: UFC Tonight
Regardless of his reputation lately, Babalu is one bad dude. I bet on him.
The question mark for me is Arlovski/Rothwell. Arlovski is good, but he never shows up to fight like he used too.

Re: UFC Tonight
Yeah CP, I agree on both points. I'm always glad to see Babalu fighting. Glad to see Arlov too, but he has turned in a couple luke warm performances recently. BTW, I personally wouldn't tell him that to his face....

the diaz bros are punks, did you catch how
they disrepected kj noons after his last fight.
however, contraversy at times can provide
various stepping stones, good or bad ones.
but defintely looking forward ufc, elitexc, affliction,
and dream cards...shinya aoki is pound for pound
one of the best in the world, he's the cat that pulled
off the gogo plata from mount position.
for some reason, i see tim sylvia getting submitted
via arm bar...choi hong man-esk

Re: UFC Tonight
There was a mma blog on ifish a few months ago about Fedor and his hiatus. I said it then and I will say it now- he is the toughest heavyweight in mma. He showed it tonight. After beating down Sylvia in 38 seconds, he was asked who he would like to fight next. He spoke in Russian and the only word I could understand before the translation- Cotoure. I hope the UFC allows Randy out of his contract so he can take this fight. The affliction card was a barn burner and if they can keep putting on fights like tonight, Dana White better start worrying. Now I know why John McCarthy has been absent from the last few UFC pay per views. He is now the "Joe Rogan" for Affliction.

Re: UFC Tonight
Fedor is a bad dude. Between Affliction and UFC the best fight or knock out was the Brodie Farber Vs. Rory Markham fight the last one on UFC after the main event. Wicked leg kick.
Didn't see the FSN fights, anybody else?
Nice thing about DVR watched it all in about 3ish hours.
Herb Dean was a referee for Afflicition too.

Josh "The Fat Assassin" Barnett had a pretty convincing KO over Pedro Rizzo as well. He hit him with the light switch and it was all over for Pedro.

Re: UFC Tonight
Affliction was awsome. One thing I noticed was there was no BOOOOING during any match that I heard. I even watched it on replay yesterday and could not hear any of that nonsense.
Fedor did in 36 seconds what Couture did not even come close to doing in their match up. That was like a train wreck happening in high speed. Man, Fedor is fast. If I was Couture, I would possibly think twice about that match up.
Arlovski did pretty good. He started out slow against a very tough guy on a winning streak. When he smelled Rothwell getting sleepy, he turned it up and went to work. Good to see him back to the pitbull style from what he used to be known for.
Barnett a K.O. artist? I would love to see him in the ring with Fedor.
Nog lite was putting a boxing clinic on against Dewees. K.O.
As far as UFC, Silva just seems to get better and better. He caught a pretty fast kick and planted his knuckles right into the sweet spot. Too bad he wasn't fighting at 205+.
An A+ night of fights all around. Hangover was a good D-.

I didn't see it. Did hear that Allistair Overeem beat Mark Hunt. That is most impressive.
Aoki got blasted by Hellboy! Sherdog said it might have been the fight of the year.
I want to see this. Do you know how?
