My ghillie finally arrived!!!
My ghillie from Rancho Safari (that I ordered at the Sportsman's Show back in February) finally arrived. Is there anything special I need to do to get the smell out of it, besides just hanging it up to let it air out?

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
Posting a picture of it will most assuredly remove most of the smells.
What colors did you go with?
Whatever you do, dont get it dirty.

Post pics please. Then, stuff it into a air tight bag with vegetation from the region you hunt.

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
Okay, I've never had much luck with this picture posting thing, but we'll give it a try. Just got back from Cabelas; $400 later and not much to show for it but a bunch of shirts!!!
I had another one, but I can't get it to download. Those blue jeans are classics though!!
I hunt east and west side, and this ghillie is Advantage Timber. I think I'll get another one when they come out with the APHD or APGHD from Mossy Oak.

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
That's funny!
I don't quite get it, but as long as you do, what the heck? Enjoy!
If the cleaning instructions say that you can wash it, I'd suggest you try some of that unscented sports wash detergent.

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
I love my rancho safari. I have 2 favorite coyote kills to its credit. One I shot as it peeked around my ambush 'bush', i touched one off without picking the gun up of my lap (the powder burn is still visible on its tanned pelt) And #2 was when I shot one on a dead run and a drop of blood hit the end of my scope, the dog skidding and throwing dust on my boots under a tree.
Great stuff, great applications to waterfowl too... jsut don't wear it during any big game seasons, or areas high in redneck bigfoot hunters!
ALSO! Store it very well... the chipmunks love to build nests in these things if left in a garage shelf and single layer garbage bag...don't ask, but the chippies have since been relocated (a higher calling so to speak)

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
I want to get into 'yote hunting more and everybody said the ghillies make it so the yotes don't make your shape, but you need to contol scent. They said that with a ghillie you can make some movements without geting caught as easily. Since I have a hard time sitting still for more than about five minutes I thought it might help. I got a nice FoxPro Scorpion, built my AR, and found a stool up at Cabelas last trip up, now I'll focus on scent control.
To shower or not to shower, that is the question!

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
I have a Rancho Safar ghillie also but have not worn it as much as I should. My biggest problem is the fringe always gets into my field of vision. I gave it a "haircut" and that helped a little, but this is still a problem.
I know using one is a huge advantage, so I'll just have to do something to make it work.

Is this brand (Rancho Safari) better than what Cabela's sells? What is the "smell" you are talking about? Would a company sell a product that has such a strong sent that it defeats the intended purpose?

The 'smell', if it is the same as mine, is burlap... I don't think it is a terrible smell, but to take a little of the edge off mine, I threw a few branches of sage and juniper in a rubbermade tote with mine.

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
I have always thought about getting one of those. But, I bow hunt and i thought my bow string would get caught in the suit. Does anyone out there have one of these gillies and bow hunt?

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
I don't have a ghillie, but my hunting partner always wears his and he has no problems with the string hitting anything.
I need to buy a ghillie. I bought one that you have to put together, but I am too lazy to put it together, now I want to buy one that is already put together.

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
I use mine when the brush is to thick i just sit on the side of the logging road and point the gun down the road and call coyotes will step into the road to look around for a second or two and bang.
but they suck around blackberrys.

I looked at Cabelas and they discontinued their 3/4 length coats, so the only option from them was the short jacket. I wanted the 3/4 length so my legs would be covered when I was sitting on a stool.
I think it's like anything, there are some smells from the manufacturing process.

If i wore one of those during bow season in oregon, I'd be sweatin like a dog poooopin peach seeds! Too much clothing for me. It would be great for yote hunting in winter though. Just not in 80 degree weather.

Re: My ghillie finally arrived!!!
Yes, they are warm. Makes quite the difference in the winter.
