Lightbulb Low Holing Boats on the Big Lake

So is there a ethic, or a respectful thing amongst boaters on the ocean. On low holing them well there on a drift? Say your bottom fishing, you have the #'s for the hole and some other boat sees you catching fish and goes right below you or on top of you. Is that wrong for some of you or is it a natural thing to do. ie: low holing a charter boat. I am just curious to a response to this as I am new to ocean fishing, and wouyld like to know.

its a big ocean and you're gonna have to learn to share it. one thing to remember though, size has might and if they are bigger and drift faster...well would you rather be in their way of on the following seas?

Interesting question, good to think about sometimes. i had the reverse of what you're suggesting happen, a charter boat set up where I was gonna drift as I was resetting. He had been about a half mile away and I had been drifting over that spot for about 45 minutes. I drift faster than charter boats, so when I got close to him, I just went somewhere else. I was aggravated, but not much I could reasonably do, no benefit to getting on the radio and talking to him, he obviously knew I had been fishing that spot. Took a little looking, but I found a good school of fish elsewhere and limited and left before he did.

Setting up on a spot somebody else is fishing is rude and a no-no as far as I'm concerned. When bots are bottom fishing or drifting and fishing, give 'em plenty of room. As Paul said, it's a big ocean.

When guys are trolling for salmon, I think it's ok to get in line, but still give each boat lots of room. When fishing for tuna, don't pass within about a 100 yards behind a boat, some of us fish a line way way back.

I'm somewhat new out there as well, but in my opinion dropping in just below someone on a drift would be inconsiderate if it made you change what you were doing. Otherwise it would bother me. If it's a good spot, there's more than 1 fish to be caught there anyway.

If I see someone else catching fish when I'm not, I would go to the top of the drift their fishing and drop the lines in. I would expect others to do the same.

Two things to say here. Sometimes boats make long drifts and when they reset you think they moved in on you. If you set up above with plenty of room between the two then it really doesn't hurt them.

If you see a boat catching and circle all around them watching to see how active the bite is and then come set below them, or even right behind them and push down finners thats wrong.
