You know what they say! The two happiest days in life are when you buy your boat, and when you buy your second boat. Except of course those days when you buy your 3rd and 4th boat.
Not sure this is exactly how I heard it, but I think for purists it's true!

Thats a fine looking craft, Ray. I'm happy for you. Now steady as she goes with that new boat, you have some excellent resources to get you started, be sure and use them. I may need a crusing partner here in a few months.
Congrats.

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Mike, you're on. I got to get my sea legs under me and will be taking it slow till I know the ropes better. Maybe I can talk ol' Johnboy into a few tutor sessions. I know that I don't know it all and have no plans of getting in too deep without a paddle. I am going to get there though.
She ain't no speed boat but she is very stable.
She will run up to about 31 MPH but will cruise from 10 to 25 very comfortably. I'll be adding trim tabs in a month or two then one of those large insulated tuna boxes
With the radar I'll be able to get an early start. and you can catch up without too much trouble .
***, hehehe I like that

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Hey Ray, those are nauti looking boats. One comment, and you may know this already but if you don't, beware: with any balsa or foam core boat (like yours), you have to be very careful about putting any bolts or screws into the structure. If not done right, water will eventually leak into the core, and that's bad news. I didn't know this when I bought my glass/ foam core dory 12 years ago, and it was a real pain to fix the damage from the previous owner's poorly sealed holes.
One method is, you oversize the hole, and then seal a wooden plug in place with 3M 5200 marine sealant. Then drill the small hole through the wood, and use same 5200 around that screw or bolt. Also, good backing plates are important to keep the screws or bolts from moving which could break the seal between the plug & the core.
To be sure, I'd talk to the C-Dory folks about their preferred method. Good luck; see ya out there next summer.

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Miss B Haven has got that old saying about boats all wrong....
The ultimate boat owners happiness is when he is cured of the addiction and SELLS the last boat.
When swivel neckitis is cured and you can drive down any freeway without checking out which boat passed you going the other way.
When going to Janzten Beach means stopping only at Home Depot. Not West Marine, Boaters World, The Marine Wharehouse, boat dealers and eating lunch so that you can see the boats going down the Columbia.
When reading the want ads is for a car or new home.
When getting up at some ungodly hour so that you can drive in less traffic to the coast and launch before Pilar gets there and you have to spend three hours stratigizing on where the tuna are.
When you can buy gas and not worry about the next station having gas for five cents cheaper.
When hiding the credit card statement from the Ms. is no longer necessary.
When you can up your 401k deduction to pay for retirement. No boat payments.
When guarding the door for the UPS, FEDEX, Airborne Express drivers with big packages.
When Consumers Marine, Hamiliton Marine, Yachtworld, Boaters Want Ads website favorites are deleted from the browser. Of course ifish can stay.
When the driveway and garage are reclaimed by the MS. for the minvan and antiques.
Nah.... Miss BHaven has a LONNNNNNG way to being a truly happily free man......
(did you see the new catamaran that .......)
BOB... TAKE OUT THE GARBAGE!!!!!

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Mark, I am very familiar with the price to be paid for poor craftsmanship. With all the boats I climbed around shopping for this one I did see a few dories, Not C-Dory Brand, that had soft spots in the floor. A costly repair to say the least.
Thanks for the concern, I look forward to seeing you on the water.
Sensei, you crack me up... lol

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Mark, I thought you and others might benefit from this link.
Balsa Core Study
Scientist placed a 2' square of end grain balsa with two holes, 1 2" and 1 4" into a bay and left it there under water for three years. There was no rot or migration of water more than 4 mills!
Here is another artilce on the damage you mentioned above by a marine surveyor.
Attaching Hardware to your Boat
Tom, we will have to see what the season brings. I have a few trips to "pay back" and a friend or two with boats that are down but sooner or later it's always later. Hang in there, we'll get out. Maybe you could bring some of that homade salsa .
Pilar, drop me a dime man. Let's get together and make some plans.

Sensei-san - Easy for you to say, don't you have a Nephew with a nice big Bertram? Man - my relatives don't take me TUNA fishing. Maybe one of them will hit the lottery some day and then I can be their baitboy/deckhand.
Of course if you don't own your own boat, how can you wife be the CAPTAIN?

Pilar. Appts.... fishing.... Appts.... fishing...
Hmmm... appts can be rescheduled during working hours. Why spend "vacation" time running to doctors and dentists?!
Besides, didn't you tell me just this morning the phrase of the day is "boat repair?"
Aren't you supposed to be heading to Washington on the 26th?
Ray - Don't listen to John. He's outta here for a coupla weeks, buddy ol' pal. Besides, I'd do more for your image anyway.

Arghhh.... I gotta ge a feel for her before I take on too much company. There will be plenty of opportunities.
Hmmm, It might be nice to have someone who can back a trailer come along....
If only I knew someone who could back a trailer that had some Sturgeon gear....

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Ray,
I can back a trailer up and have a Sturgeon pole with some tackle. Jk. I was wondering how much your C-Dory weighs. Santa told me that you might be getting a truck in the near future. At any rate it does look a bit too big for your Nissan. Let me know when you need some help. I know it will be a busy year for you with all the pay backs. Just give me a jingle if anyone cancels. Crew will be unless I am going out of Garibaldi already. Thanks Ray, Tom

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Mr. Fisherman, Good catch with your CDory!!! They are good runners and the cabin features offer alot of amenites wise. What size engine did you buy? Also a kicker? Did you know CDory used to build a couple models of a 26'CDory? One tough machine. Huge below deck fishbox, I've put a 300lb 'butt in there. And large fuel capacity. 120 gals. Large cabinw/settee also. Your next step up perhaps. Way to go. I added a 22' Bayrunner Cuddy to my boat shop this year and it sure has added new dimensions to my fishability. Radar, 2 lorans, FF, VHF, CB, it's been fun getting in "tune" with all the stuff. You'll have a blast getting used to all the fun stuff you can do. Have a Merry Christmas and break in the New Boat if you know what I mean!....

Yep nice boat Ray! I looked at her at Brinsfeilds and really liked it. Price was right too; but I'm a power junky and really like to fly. I bet your glad I changed my mind aye!
I gotta do something before Butt season though. I'm not pounding my arse up around my neck in my sled again next year.

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Chilly One, She is a used boat or I couldn't have possibly afforded her. For now she is equiped with a 75HP 2 stroke backed up with a 8HP Honda 4 stroke kicker.
She'll do 32 knots WOT and cruise anywhere from 10 to 25 with ease.
I searched and researched and shopped for four and a half long years. Pinched pennys and skimped on fishing trips and made many sacrifices to get to this point.
My Rig will tow her just fine. I'm not in any hurry to get where I'm going. I sometimes have to remind myself that the whole idea is to relax, especially when everyone wants to be in front of the guy with the boat... .
I can do about everything I want to do in this boat. It is large enough to afford my offshore passion and light enough to tow with my existing rig. When I brought her home, West bound on 26, I was able to do 55 all the way up the hill without too much effort. Add to that the ability to drop a hook and gunkhole for a while and the package looks complete. It is quite economical too and I'll like that when it's time to fill up at the gas pump. I've already slept in the berth and found it VERY enjoyable. The night before Halibut Hill will Never be the same.
I have read about adventerous folks in Alaska and abroad, some of whom I have become friends with, and there are so many things these boats can and do do that I am certain this time I made the right choice for me and my family.
I can't wait to explore the San Juans this summer...
So many fish, so little time...

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Tom, to answer your question... With 58 gallons of fuel and my typical fishing gear on the trailer she weighs a tidy 3250#. My rig is rated for 5000#. I have no problems at all pulling the boat with my Xterra.
Later....

Re: It's Comming!!!!!
Tom, I'll cook them on the block of my tow rig on the way to the ramp or in the microwave with the shore power cord or in the marina stove. Or maybe I'll keep them warm in one of those Coleman cooler/heaters. Time will tell but I sure like having the problem.
I guess I could just get up early and cook them up fresh on the boat.
I am reading up and taking the opportunity to learn my new motor. Believe me, I will be prepared but plan on learning a lot as I go, like everyone does.
I look forward to seeing you out there...
