7 springers caught 2/16 CR
Seven fish caught all by one guy. One over 30lbs, 3 in the 20s and 3 in the teens.
The guy was about 8 ft. long and 600 lbs. He had a huge overibite and barked.
All of them were caught off the light house at the downriver end of Sauvies Island. 60 ft. of water with very short dives, so I am guessing the fish were down 10-20 ft.
THIS IS NO JOKE. There were about 4 boats trolling in the area with nothing that I saw....But that one guy was slaying them so they are here.

Re: 7 springers caught 2/16 CR
We were downriver of that point Sunday and saw a pair of sea lions with at least 5 fish. One was so close we could see it was a steelhead. The gulls go crazy when they are ripping up a fish.

Dang sea lions I was plunking off Prescott Beach last Friday and those stupid things were swimming not 30 feet offshore! No wonder no one caught anything.

Re: 7 springers caught 2/16 CR
Watch them real close. Like you were, being able to tell it was a Steelhead is close enough. But watch them. You will notice that it probably was the same fish. They like to play with there food. They will throw it around and rip a little. Than go after it again and again until they literally pick it up and gulp it down. If you saw him gulp that many times than I would say he ate that many fish, but you would be suprised how many times he just plays with it.
I watched one in Milwaukie last year for 3 1/2 hours. We thought he had ate 7 or 8 fish, but in reality he only ate one.

Re: 7 springers caught 2/16 CR
That's where I was. And those guys on the bank were there. They used the boat to take out their rig-ups. No fish for them.
And I guarentee that it was 7 fish. We watched him eat each one. Then it was down and up with another untouched fish. The small ones might have been steelhead, but the 4 in the twenties and thirties would have been record steelhead. If a seal takes 3 1/2 hours to eat a fish that seal is going to starve.

Re: 7 springers caught 2/16 CR
How can you tell it was the same fish? Don't they all look alike?
The pair of sea lions we watched made short work of the fish they caught. It was like 2-3 bites each and it was down the hatch. The birds took about 5 minutes tops to clean up the mess.

Re: 7 springers caught 2/16 CR
Everyone complains about he Sea Lions. Well I understand.
But ! When I anchor in a Hawg Line in the Willamette one thing that I noticed is that when the
Sea Lions are in the Bite is on. Seen it happen many times. I have fished holes on the Wilson and
fishing was slow. Some rafters came through and Wham ! Sometimes those things can work to
your advantage.
Sea Lions are a fact of life. Also: It is another positive sign that the Ocean is Healthy..

Re: 7 springers caught 2/16 CR
I saw those sea lions also on Sunday. I was fishing the plunking the point off of the mouth of the Lewis. One of them swam about 10ft from the shore. No fish for us or anyone else I saw, except the sea lions.

Re: 7 springers caught 2/16 CR
Last year I saw a couple of them floating down the river upside down.
The must have stuffed themselves on Springers and no one was around to give them the
Hymlick manauver.
Too bad !
