Default Ducane BBQ??

Anyone have a newer one (since they were acquired and slightly re-designed by Weber)? Looking at the ones carried by Marquis in Tigard yesterday, pretty impressed with weight/construction.

Honestly, I'd like a Traeger, but refuse to give up the ability to sear/burn when I want to. Have several friends that make all sorts of things on theirs, but they all have the same idea when it comes to steaks and other things that need a "good burn"; they want a second grill to do just that.

Anyway, just lookig for some feedback.

My parents have one. It gets hot and puts a good searing to a steak!

That said, after 4 years it is need of a second "rebuild". We are going back to charcoal for the BBQ at their place this weekend, because the Ducane needs almost $300 in repairs. It is great when it works, but ...

Just curious. What temperature do you need to sear a steak? I'm not really sure and it's been so long since I cooked on a regular BBQ that I can't remember.

Thanks.

I sear my steaks over an infrared heater. I'm not touching it to see what the temp is.

Ducane used to have a good rep., before Weber took them. Haven't heard of anyone buying one since. Why not get the Weber? Plenty of good reviews for them.

I had an old Ducane. Lasted 12 years. Finally replaced it this year. Bought a new Weber Genesis E-320 with all stainless interior parts. Best grill I have ever cooked over. It complements our Traeger BBQ 100 very well.
I too refuse to give up a grill. I have to have two machines on the patio. Can't grill vegetables or kabobs very well on a Traeger. There is no multi-purpose machine that will do it all. Traeger does some things very well. Some things, not so well.

I had a Ducane and was not impressed with the thin stainless sheetmetal. Got a Weber Genesis and have never looked back. Right now I have 2 large pork shoulders that just got off the Traeger for a 14hr cold smoke and are searing up to internal temerature standards on the Weber. The Fourth is all about pulled pork baby! I had one (well, the wife bought it) and hated it. Never got hot enough to cook steaks or anything that required lots of heat. It did not have an infrared burner which is required for that kind of cooking.

We now have a Fire Magic w/infrared burner and it does a fine job. It also has an upper rack that is a long way from the fire that I use for all other cooking as it is much tougher to burn food up there and the heat is more even. It also has a back burner for putting whole chickens or roasts on the rotis.

I still use the old school webbers, just like the ones on the cover of this weeks FOODDAY in the Oregonian. I Love those BBQ's because I can control the temp so well. I've always had trouble getting the temp low enough on gas grills. Those things are true CLASSICS! They're great for cooking slow and can get as hot as you want.

By the way, I bought my current BBQ for $12 bucks at a garage sale about 6 years ago. The wheel falls off, but otherwise it's exactly what I want.

Have a great 4th everyone!
