Threemuch is down!
I was making a run in the columbia sunday, when my RPMs dropped off significantly. Best I could get at WOT was about 3000 rpm. On the slow ride back to the dock, the engine made a pretty bad noise (metal on metal) and started to clang around pretty good. I shut her down, but dollars to donuts, I am looking at some big money. A rebuilt powerhead for this thing is like $3K, plus installation!
Take pity on me salty dogs, and if you have an open spot for bottom fishing, crabbing, diving, sturgeon, whatever, please give a call. The boat will be down a while until I can scrape together enough pennies to get her fixed.

Re: Threemuch is down!
Sorry Kurt, I went through that 3 yrs ago. If you can call it good news the seas are going up to 24 feet combined this weekend. When it calms down I'll send you an email and we'll go catch some bottomfish.

Thats a Bummer deal. I am always looking for a good sturgeon fishing partner so maybe we can get together. Gonna be cold this time of year though no top on boat no heater either.

Re: Threemuch is down!
Bartletts in Forest Grove, its a small one man shop so he's hard to catch sometimes but he's fair priced and a good mech.

3L Sea Drive. Same powerhead as a 225HP Johnson or Evinrude looper. 1988 is the vintage.

Re: Threemuch is down!
Threemuch - My bro-inlaw swears by Channel Marine. He was rebuilding a lot of stuff in an 80's vintage Bayliner Sport Fisher with gas engines. He was very happy with the work they did. Not sure if they work on your motor. They do Merc and Volvo I/Os, not sure what else. I've only had them do some real small stuff (pressing gears etc) so I can't speak first hand. Good luck - hope your back in the water soon.

If ya don't mind the trip to West Salem, Dennis at Dennis's boat shop is the only one I'll deal with. Give him a call he's in the phone book.

Thanks for the offers. I will definitely take you guys up.
Anyone know an honest mechanic? Or have any nightmare stories about Brown's landing or Channel Marine?

Re: Threemuch is down!
My vote go's to Greg at channel marine. He can get really busy and get behind sometimes but he does first class work and what I really like is he stands behind his work sometimes even when it wasn't necessairly his fault.
True Story( outdrive rebuilt by him I took it to bonniville and got tough line wrapped around the prop which caused it to cut a seal. By now I was on a different trip out on the big blue when the outdrive finally went I was kind of forced to limp back in on the outdrive and wound up trashing the lower unit. My dad is up from Texas and I wanted to get him fishing. I took it to Greg not knowing about the line and blown seal I thought it was thier fault. he showed me what caused my grief and took a lower unit that his team had rebuilt and immediately installed it after thier normal working hours so that they could get me back on the water. How much $600 this is a $1800 to $2200 outdrive.) He has won my business for years to come.
Dan!

Re: Threemuch is down!
Capn Dan, where is this Channel Marine?
I'd drive a ways to do business with a place like that.
'Honest Mechanic' has been an oxymoron for too damn long.

Re: Threemuch is down!
Pilar - Channel used to be on hwy 30 just as you were getting into Scappoose (headed West). Right side by that big nursery with all the greenhouses that stretch clear back to the Dike. They just built a new shop back towards pdx on lower rocky point rd. Same road that Big Oak Marina is on. You can see it off the hwy (sit's down the bank from the hwy). It's the next road past the weigh station (Rocky Point Road, Rocky Point Marina and Happy Rock moorage are down that road right at the weigh station.

Re: Threemuch is down!
The Wrench Connection. 503-390-0101 Keizer Or. Henry and Kelly French. They are busy and it may take them awhile to get to it........this is because they are honest, knowledgable and very reasonable. Good thing is, this is they're slow season. You may still experience a waiting list however due to afore mentioned reasons.
Henry works on Evinrude, Johnson and Volvo. Won't touch anything else. I'm not familar with Sea Drive but if it's Evinrude your in.
The power plant Baitboy put up may be your answer. The only problem with that is you may be going through the same thing again. Never know what your getting with used equipment!
Your welcome on my boat anytime Kurt. Been thinking about trying TB for sturg. It can be good when the rivers are blown out. I'll have to check in with Marie and Dennis.

Re: Threemuch is down!
Thanks for all the reccomendations. Sea drive is OMC, but has an integrated bracket. So the powerhead and lower unit are the same as a Johnson or Evinrude.
I need to scrape pennys together for a while, so I have some time to make a decision and an appointment.

Re: Threemuch is down!
Kurt buddy,
Do you have a plan yet?
Hey, I'd like to extend an offer to you to join me on the Sea Lion for some Sturgeon fishing after the first of the year. What do you say?
