Bad day.....

This isnt really hunting related but it involves my bestfriend and best hunting partner, my yellow lab Darby so I thought it might be ok. For the last couple weeks Ive noticed his lower gut has been getting enlarged..I took him to the vet today and my worst fears were confirmed. The vet said he was almost sure it was a tumor or cancer..he couldnt tell for sure do to the build up of fluid clouding the x ray so we go back in on thursday for an ultra sound/ possible scope of his abdomen...if everyone could just say a prayer for him that we can beat this crap Id really appreciate it...this has been hands down they hardest thing Ive ever had to endure...he's my first Dog and we've shared so many good hunting times together I just cant imagine him not being there in the blind with me this coming season...thanks guys

This cancer thing in dogs is just getting way to common...I just had the same thing happen to my 8 yr old lab a couple of weeks ago. Funny thing was we had been in for something else just 4 months earlier and he had a scope, x-ray and ultra sound on his abdomen and it wasnt there....two weeks ago it was the size of a small football. Doc said when its that aggresive we didnt have too good a chance with surgery and since he had quit eating that left us with only one option. I just hope that when I go, I go where he went so we can hunt the fields and marshes together again someday.

Like John said above, support Chase away K-9 Cancer. Its a local born grassroots effort to raise money strictly to find a cure for cancer in dogs.

My prayers are with Darby. I just lost my old yellow Brutus to cancer less than 2 months ago and the road you are now traveling is very tough. I hope he makes it.

Well I went for the ultra sound today...the tumor has taken over his spleen and he's bleeding internally....the vet said we could do an operation however the chances of him curing or removing the cancer were less than 98 percent...this has ripped my heart and fed it to me on a platter....I thank you all so much but at this point Im just going to love my dog and enjoy every moment Ive had with him....hes eating a t bone steak tonight and tomorrow we are going for a walk in our favorite hunting grounds...Ive decided that when he passes or is put down I will bury him in our favorite hunting grounds (where Im going to be buried) so we can hunt forever in eternity together thanks everyone for your prayers..Im just so grateful for having such a good dog and for the great times we've had together
