Default Anybody try FlyRoddin Surf Perch in the Flats

My Pappy and i have recently been Fly roddin Surf Perch (Red Fins) in the flats in between the breakers. We've caught as many as 100 a day. they fight like crazy in the strong currents, they make the best fish n chips.

Anybody trying this or have some info or stories?

I've tried it on three different occasions, and never hit a fish. When I went back to my regular surf setup I started catching them again. I guess I'm just not doing it right. What I like about it is you feel successful by just staying alive.

Glad to hear somebody is making it work.

You mind revealing the place where between the breakers you catching 100 perch with a flyrod in a day? I have tried the bait set-up and even tried using small 1 inch grubs and manage only a half dozen perch. I might have to try using my flyrod but with the surf and wind, I probably end up catching my rear end. Oh well...........

I'd really like to try it sometime if you've ever got some room on the beach for an extra person. What kind of fly's are you throwing? What setup are you using? Weight rod? Line? etc.? Enquiring minds want to know!

Hey Nifty:
I did some surf fishing last summer and got a few....but not 100! Tell me more. What do you look for in a place to fish? Do you keep moving until you find the fish or what? That would be a blast to hook that many in a day. What kind of fly? Shrimp imitation? Fishrite
