Re: Salmon Rods and Reels
if you are using it for a trolling boat rod i would go with fiberglass. they sell them at basspro.com for 19.99. they are 7'6" and are for 30lb test. the guy at lamiglass convinced me of it. fiberglass is unbreakable and gives the lure a smoother swim rather than a snapy one.

Re: Salmon Rods and Reels
Keta try the I fish community board. I have seen them get into some really esoteric discussions on different rods and reels for different occassions. I basically use whatever I can afford that stays together in one piece.

Salmon Rods and Reels
If someone was to buy you a salmon outfit for Christmas what would you want?
I prefer 8-1/2' to 9' Lamiglass rods and Shamano Calcuta reels.

Re: Salmon Rods and Reels
I want a rod guaranteed to catch fish at least every other drop, cast, or troll. Anybody know where my wife can find one for me? Christmas is coming soon.

Re: Salmon Rods and Reels
Hey PM - I get dizzy watching that new Avitar of yours!
PS- Just where exactly do you keep that rod at? I might want to keep an eye on it for you!

Re: Salmon Rods and Reels
Yeah, I know... I'm still trying to find a decent av. Know anyone that will make one for me? I know what I want...
Thanks for the offer... but rod is safe. Besides, it wouldn't work for you... you have to not only have the magic rod, you have to be on the right boat!

Re: Salmon Rods and Reels
I think you're pretty close Keta with your choices already, but I personally like the loomis rods over the lami's if I have a choice. Both are great rods and I own both brands. I love my calcutta's though. I don't think I could ever choose a different reel, but the price tag hampers some opinions out there.

Re: Salmon Rods and Reels
I would go with a calstar grafighter 900xl custom wrapped and a Penn 965 international. But I don't think anyone likes me enough to buy me that for Christmas.

Re: Salmon Rods and Reels
I have been converting over to Lamiglas, the only loomis I buy now are heavily discounted deals. I just picked up a GL2 BBR966, seems like a good versatile stick! Lots of back bone @ 3-10 oz., relatively sensitive tip @ 15-40 lbs. I am thinking a good rock fish rod, salmon trolling, light sturgeon, etc. Anybody fishing one of these?
