Shark Bite
My buddy Clay looks a little underwhelmed shortly after a 10 ft salmon shark surfaced and bit off half of this halibut. When the shark bit and did a slow roll on the surface Clay looked at me and said "Now what the .... am I supposed to do with this thing?"

Re: Shark Bite
Nice picture and funny story.
Might as well flick it back in and give the rest to the shark. As far as the regs are concerned, the shark landed and processed it first so logically he would have to tag it.

Nothing like a nice "greasy" smooth ocean in the background
Man I can't wait till the silvers are thick
H2O Dog,
Since you can't measure it to see if it meets the lenght requirements, I say toss it back and keep fishing. You are just begging for a citation if you get checked with something like that in my opinion. I had about an 8 foot shark bite off about half of a chinook last year while I was fishing the rock pile

Re: Shark Bite
No doubt it is now undersized and must be released.

Re: Shark Bite
Just hook a 20/0 through it, steel leader, and hold on. Never caught a Salmon Shark before...

Re: Shark Bite
Well, Clay did offer the remainder of that poor halibut to the shark. Still attached to his circle hook he dropped it back in the water and the shark did a big circle, kind of like a jet fighter, and swam back at us and swallowed it whole. As it went under the boat it got tangled with everyone on the other side of the boat and we were destined to lose a bunch of gear. The shark broke loose and lost his grip on the halibut and the rest is history. We tried to harpoon it but it just happened to quick.
