NICE FISH!
I've fished several times out of La Paz. I love fishing down there. How big was that tuna? After the initial run, those darn things can be alot of work. Especially when they go into that death spiral.

Re: Wak's Cabo Pix
Richter....we didn't have a scale, but I have lifted other hundred pound fish and it didn't feel much lighter...I am a 235 pounder if that helps to size him up.....
I lost another one that Victor (Skipper) thought was about 60 on light tackle and 30 pound test, it broke off right at the boat.
We caught most on jigs but some on live bait. We had a couple good sized little tuna looking baits, and we got into some bigger fish, and that is when the porpise got hooked and ruined our best chance at a real big fish.

Wak'em
Nice pics.........that underwater shot of the tuna looks massive!!!!! I have heard that the wahoo fishing has been really good lately over by the Gordo Banks area.......where did you get yours. Did you catch any dorado??? Are the stripers still biting on the Pacific side?? How far did you have to go out.??? Any results on the big tuna tournament they had ??? Details man!!!!!! Give us a blow by blow description of your journey and fishing trips.
I am driving down the day after Thanksgiving and will be flying back Jan 2, so maybe I will be in contention for catching the last tuna of the season........(other than the Oregon albies, which are only 8 months away and counting). I hope the tuna and the hoo's are still around in December when I am down there.
What kind of camera do you have??? I need to get into the digital world one of these days and learn something new.

Re: Wak's Cabo Pix
The question I have is this ... why the heck do they
always do body shots with the gaff on those party boats?
Can't they gaff 'em in the head? Ifishers unite!!!
If a quide takes you out and body gaffs a fish for you,
refuse to pay for the trip! There is absolutly no
excuse (IMHO) to NOT gaff a fish in the head!

Re: Wak's Cabo Pix
I agree....I have never been impressed with the gaffing that some do....my Dad would have grounded me for less.
Marty, they had lots of Wahoo flags up, and I heard it was pretty fair. We did catch 4 dorado but no big ones. I lost one little marlin and that was the only one we saw. The other who targeted stripers did better. Last year we did real good in January (and they were close).
We were only 25 miles or so off shore and we had the 8 yellowfin by 11 oclock. The bummer was that when we got into the big fish, the porpise ate our bait. Have a safe happy trip, and skip the 12 dollar airport hamburger....I am just now eating solid food...burp!
I think the winner of the Bisbee had a 257 pounder, the fishing was pretty hard after the last storm.
Pilar...they were sure fun to catch, but I think I liked the albies better......maybe it is just because I have more personal involvement. I wish I had my own boat down there.

Re: Wak's Cabo Pix
Santa Rosalia...at least that is where I thought of. I have never been there but have a friend who has been a couple of times (Hi Chris!) and has talked me into it! I plan to pull my 20' Hewescraft and gear. I figure a boat for 4 people is about right...if the matching is good. I am aiming at late June...hope lots of folks can caravan down with me!
Come on along...WP

Re: Wak's Cabo Pix
Your killing me WP!!! I'm a gnat's hair away from braving the "wifely wrath" and broaching the subject of a third year in Santa Rosalia. Late June will be mucho Dorado time down there with a good chance at billfish. One thing you hardly ever hear anyone talking about down there is the bottom fishing. It is absolutely incredible and, if nothing else, a great backup for when the "trophy" species aren't biting.
