Eye of the storm almost here
The peak of this mother is almost here. 24 ft seas at Newport weather bouy. The eye of this thing has 38 ft seas, and is only about 350 miles out:
sea state analysis
I'll be on the bluff at Depoe on Saturday or Sunday with raingear, movie camera, and popcorn if anyone cares to join in.

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
 I'll probably be there with the family also...I was thinking Depoe Bay, fer sher, with the waves blowing totally across Highway 101. Don't want to get too much salt on my "new" camper though...Truck either...Call me "chicken!: If you see a newer RED Ford F-350 4-Door Dually with a White Arctic Fox camper with RED graphics on it, hunkered down, somewhere in the Depoe Bay area, feel free to come over and say "Hi!"

Mark,
Be very careful, be very very careful. Conditions such as these are extremely dangerous to popcorn. Your entire day will be completely ruined if the slightest bit of moisture invades your popcorn. This is a war you are engaging in. Remember the number one priority in warfare is to always keep your popcorn dry.

Good day oregon was doing a live shot at Barview Park this morning. Waves went over the dunes and jetty last night and into the parking lot. Logs and sand everywhere!

I'm headed down as well today. Not sure which way I'll go yet though. I'm sure the best show will be in Depoe.

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
Just got back from Depoe Bay and Boiler Bay and man what a sight! Highly recommend Boiler Bay just because the waves that hit there are so much larger. Absolutely awesome!

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
Well just got back in town from Depoe bay. Man what a great show.
I was talking to a guy who was standing there soaking wet wondering why no one was standing were he was to watch the waves. Well he found out as this enormous wave crashed against the wall, up the wall, then came right down on the side walk were he was standing.

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
OK, NOW i'm worried!! I was up at Orcas Island since
Thursday of last week and missed the storm ... I also
missed being able to check on my boat at Depoe Bay ...
Anybody notice if that funny looking little Catamaran
at the end of dock 3 was doing OK? Please! Somebody,
give me a little reassurance that my TUNA ride didn't
break loose or (worse yet) sink at the dock!!!
Thanks,
-assAssin-

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
I'm not sure but.....wasn't it dock three that broke loose and floated out to sea?

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
Popeye - I heard it was headed out to sea (the dock) until this big metal catamaran sank and anchored the dock down! Saved all those pretty fiberglass boats! Somebody should thank that guy!
We were on the CR south Jetty tower Friday AM. The ocean was what you would expect, but the bar was incredible. First time I've seen it that way. Supposedly 22 footers and then 28 at the ebb. It was Just solid white when we were there an hour into the incoming.

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
Thanks guys! I appreciate the reassurance!
On a lighter note ... while we were at Orcas Island
the last 5 days, the wind was blowing around 25-30
and there were white caps, but the water was fairly
flat with no swell. Those woooosssseyyys up there
were staying off the water in droves! I couldn't
believe it! One old guy told me that it was *dangerous*
to go out on the sound in weather like that! Heck,
he should come down to Orygone and go TUNA fishing
with us! What *I* was seeing out there was water that
I'd gladly have to run for TUNA on!
I guess you just get spoiled in an area like that where
the water is always so -flat-!!

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
Assasin,
It all depends on the direction of the wind and tide up there. If it is blowing over a long stretch of water, with the tide setting the wrong way, you wouldn't ge me out on it if there were swordfish standing in line.

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
Hey pkg40 - You need to come to the next Tunaholics meeting! What do you do with that 32 Blackfin anyway? Where do you run out of? Curious fish brains just gotta know!
Come to think of it, did you ever do an intro post and tell us a story? My appologies if you did and I missed it. If not- better late than never!

Re: Eye of the storm almost here
Bananas eh? Hmm lets see .... the first time I went marlin fishing in Cabo, the first mate ate 2 bananas for lunch and I hooked 4 stripees.
(And I guess you could say they hooked me right back)
