Re: Surf TUNA anyone???
Here's the south coast forecast. I think that warm water is not from the Sun, it's friction from the waves crashing! THey backed off Sat from 29 all the way to 27 up North, but 31 down South. Of course this is only to Florence, could be worse down at P.O.

Re: Surf TUNA anyone???
UG - The water temp is the ONLY thing that looks good here! You just gotta wonder what 20 footers at 16 seconds would be like though! Doesn't sound all that bad.

Re: Surf TUNA anyone???
Miss B... I got caught in 16-18 @ 8 seconds bringing my 40 Tolly down from Portland about 4 years ago.....NOT FUN The CG sent a 44 out to escort me across the Yaquina Bar... Don't really know what they could of done for me, but it was comforting knowing they were there. Just had to sit in the rollers until I felt a set that worked for me and hammered all 660 HP.... what a great feeling being inside the jaws tho

Popeye - Now you know where Dorothy got " there's no place like home, there's no place like home."
I'm going to be saying that this weekend (hopefully) after just running the CR coming home from Warrenton. I just wish I had a pair of glass slippers!

Pithc Pocket - Did you get the boat out and home last weekend? If not I'll check the mooring for you Thurs. night. Headed down into the teeth of the storm!

Re: Surf TUNA anyone???
Mel, got the boat, had the 100 hour service and I'm in the water at Scappoose. I'm looking forward the sturgeon opener on the Columbia. Won't hit it the weekend of the 23rd though. Lauren and I are going to Vegas for a little R&R.
It looks like you waited about 1 week too long for your trip up river. Wear your kidney belt!

Re: Surf TUNA anyone???
Yep Steve, last weekend would have been a dream trip! I got greedy hoping for a last hoorah with Capn' Toni on the crab. Looks like the crab are safe though!

Re: Surf TUNA anyone???
Is this the weekend of the "FIRST ANNUAL SALTY DOGS BOAT JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIPS"? I bet it would be fun to watch (from shore).

Re: Surf TUNA anyone???
I'm thinking I should call the I-Max film crew with all this talk of fishing and surfing the big ones. By the way the reference to the Dewey Webber surfboard brought back memories of another magic carpet........." the little man on wheels" they called him. That might be Mel coming upriver this weekend.
In late June I got hit on the river with a gale by Astoria. The puny rudders on my boat made it wild going, but no worries until I hit the entrance to Ilwaco Channel and there were four foot choppy breakers across the entrance. Made it hard to stay in the channel and then the wind at the marina was horizontal and we sailed (fast) sideways into the slip without a nick. The next day the run down the coast to Newport was dandy.

Re: Surf TUNA anyone???
I have never heard of an albacore caught in less than 100 fathoms. Bluefin will run in shallow water, but they get much more spooky.
