Clamming near Waldport - Update
Have always gone to newport for gapers in the bay under the bridge, but curious if there is any spots similar down near waldport as we will be down that way for the long weekend? what about razors on the beach down there? pm if necessary, although since its a holiday weekend im sure we can just follow the crowd, thanks,

Re: Clamming near Waldport
I was reading ODFW's site a couple days ago and there was a closure for toxin build up. you may want to check their site before you go to see if it is okay for that area.

Re: Clamming near Waldport
Ya may want to try sending a PM to TJFIREBUG as she knows that area very well and can most likely point you in the right direction.

Re: Clamming near Waldport
The SHellfish closure is generally for clams found in the Ocean, not bays (razor clams, mussels, etc).
If you want to speak with someone in person about clamming spots in Waldport, try at the Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center, it is right next to the bridge in Waldport. It is run by Oregon State Parks and they do clamming/crabbing demonstrations there, and would be able to steer you in the right direction. Ask for Cameron.

Re: Clamming near Waldport
There are a few clams in Alsea bay, but Newport is way more productive. Alsea bay only has cockles that are pretty small.

Re: Clamming near Waldport
we targeted individual holes, dug down to the water line making a hole a little bigger than arm size and reached in and grabbed them, most of them were squirting us in the face as we were digging down, it was easier to dig by hand once we hit water then trying to move wet sand with the shovel and lead to a lot less broken shells as well. Most of them were between elbow and shoulder deep.
