Smile Diamond Lake Advice...

Hey fisher-friends!

I'm heading to Diamond Lake for the first time looking for limits and good times.

I'm taking my Grandfather as he's been talking non-stop about Diamond Lake's Rainbows back in the good ol' days. We're staying at the resort and renting a boat on monday and tuesday. Weather reports say around 74F and scattered thunderstorms for both days.

We definately know how to stillfish as we typically just throw out powerbait when going after dinner. I have a small assortment of powerbait and enough treble hooks and swivels to last for life. I'm assuming 2-3lb leader works. I typically use Maxima Ultragreen leader. Any tips there? How many feet of water should we be working at Diamond? Leader Length? Are there any good areas near the resort?

I also stocked up on some trolling gear today.

I'd like to go after some of the bigger boys on the lake and I'm going to use my 6lb test spinning rod setup. I bought some F4 and F3 Flatfish in Frog, Rainbow and Orange patterns. I also have a small 4/0 Dodger, Mini Kokanne Troll, Ford Fender Setup and Mini Trout Troll Flashers. I'm thinking trollling some combination of the Dodger/Flashers and a small spinner, spoon or wolly bugger will get me a few fish. We dont have a downrigger so advice would be nice on how to setup my trolling rig. I figure to just tie the Flatfish on with no additional attractors and just some split about 4 feet up the line. Sound about right? What areas to troll? How many pulls? Etc.

Any help would be great! My grandfather has wanted to fish Diamond for the last 10 years and his health is starting to fade. I want to show him a great time and get into some nice fish!

Thanks!

Sounds like you have it covered. Go and enjoy the fishing. dont' forget to take some worms but everything you have will catch fish. Take alot of pics and enjoy the great fishing. You might want to pick up some needlefish too.

flatfish (frog) pattern are a long time proven fish catcher at diamond lake. I usually use f-3 but you can use as big as f-4's

Beaver.

The lake is shallow and the use of downriggers in not needed. If you can figure out the search function there was a thread on diamond lake that also gave a map of the lake with depths. Mostly you will be staying close to the shore line in 8-15 foot of water, at least that is wear i have had my sucess.

Good luck
