Default Google earth, how about a master warmwater fishery map?

I use it all the time, but I don't know all the ins/outs. It has massive capabilities I have never learned.

what would be really cool is to have a pinned google earth thread that allows folks to post locations of good warmwater fishing. I know there are google earth sites that guys for instance post locations of famous homes, or unique places.

Once you have google earth, all you do is click a link and it takes you there. You can save these maps and ultimately create a master map that you can get directions to, look for camping spots etc.

I would volunteer time to create such a thread if someone has the technical knowledge to get me started.

Trey,
I mixed about this. On one hand we all like to help others...but on the other, there a PILE of lurkers out there that don't deserve such info w/o giving & participating here on the IFish B&P brd.

Such info might be best kept off a main thread and handled via PM's.
I know, I know it sounds like I'm such a party pooper and it's such a cool idea, but the reality is that these spots would soon be hammered by everyone and no longer produce.

Like Roger "ExBassGuide", I'm willing to share, just not to the whole world.
If there was some way that only registered IFishers could view it, then I'd be more supportive.

Well said Mike....

I very rarely post reports on the main page anymore but I do share info with a group of guys that I met on here, usually by PM or email. Next time you get a tip from someone and give it a try (be it a spot, technique, depth, cover, etc) write them a PM and let them know how you did with said info. Maybe let them know what else you tried or where you found fish. This usually develops into a good relationship and like Mike said keeps the pressure down on all the "secret" spots....

No harm in telling everyone about techniques or baits that you've been successful with. Otherwise, what's the point of even having this forum?

If we all rarely posted reports then who would even be here? Some just post to feed their egos and brag when they do have a good day. They never help, only take from this board. Nothing wrong with posting pics of a good day though. Others are truely trying to help others. I like to hear when people post a "got skunked" report. They're not braggerts for sure.

As far as locations, generallities should work just fine (ie; upper Willy, John Day Pool, Brownlee, etc). I don't think anyone expects that "secret" spots should be given. Trey's idea is very well intentioned but I have to agree that it would be too specific. Would work well for a group of close friends though.

BTW, I have a tracking device that I have planted on EX-BassGuide Roger so that I can track his whereabouts from my computer. I'll post movements later.

You are being a useful newbie. You have posted some reports, offered an open seat, and given other people feed back. Sound pretty useful to me.

PM sent.

I used to think it was no big deal giving away fishing holes here, but over the years I've seen how harmful it can be. A body of water is one thing (if it's big enough) but I don't think I would ever narrow it down to a point on a map. I can't believe that I ever argued the other side of this (like in that post where Roger put a point on a map of Hagg where he caught the 6 lb'er!)

And yesterday I had an experience that confirms why:

I went to a hot spot I know of at a small NW U.S. lake and ran into a couple of workers there who said "yesterday there were some guys pulling smallmouths out of here left and right." Did they keep 'em?" I asked. "Oh, yeah, they walked out of here with a bunch of 'em; they were here for 5 hours catching 'em one after another."

I have seen the light fellow brethren, I think I will create my own map to share with friends and family...I have to start using the new GPS/sonar unit I bought...

I will learn the technology and will advise when I figured it out...im guessing a year or two...

I agree with what your saying, somewhat.... I think this place is great for sharing ideas or techniques, or answering questions, but I personally dont like posting reports. Way too many people read this stuff and contribute nothing. I like having my fishing spots somewhat secluded. If somebody else wants to post reports, that is fine.

As for the "brag post", I love seeing monster fish pics. It gives us all something to strive for, knowing that they are out there.

Regardless, it is a great idea, and maybe something that could be developed offline and made available to a group of buddies...

Now about that tracking device you have on Roger's boat......

I'd be more worried about Roger's Patented Catch and Release Shock Collar with available explosive attachment...

. I sometimes will report where I caught fish but many times not. And I think that most on here are the same. No one wants to get to their favorite spots and find others there. I love to see the pics too, just would hope that those that post the pics could share some info on techniques and/or baits, not location.
I last logged Roger's boat on Hagg lake 100 yards East of ramp C. He's been in the same spot a while so I'm pretty sure he's on some fish.

Here's a site I recently just discovered. When you pic a lake from the list it gives GPS coordinates and has a topo map and a google earth map. The site is www.fishingworks.com.

I have a Google Map that I use to scope out new possibilities and keep track of where we've gone and caught, etc. Its not listed, so a search will not bring it up. You have to be linked to it. Being fairly new to the area, and reborn to fishing, it was really the only way for me to keep track of where we could go fishing. With the different pin colors and options, I come back, change the color of the pin and leave a report of what we might have found. Kinda like a fishing journal map.

So far the warmwater info is lacking. I've had zero luck... but, time will turn and I'll have more info go to with.
