Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Man - This is going to be the most biased pole this board has ever done. Nothing but Tunaholics hanging out on Salty dogs. It's kinda like standing in the door of the Candy store and taking a pole to see how many people drink.
Just realized I misspelled "poll". Freudian slip?

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Hey Ed,
I am sure I will have a slot or three next summer! I plan on going every single day that the ocean cooperates (a serious case of tuna fever!) Work is going....well going! How are you doing with all the changes? I haven't seen you for a while...drop by when you get a chance! I need to talk tuna some more!
Still only one saltydog in denial....I am sure they just don't understand that answers was a JOKE!!!!!

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
I was out bottom fishing 22 miles last Sat (out of CR- off Tillamook head/Cannon beach). Water was 49 degrees, down by about 8 degrees from 3 weeks ago same spot. Porpose were everywhere on the run home, but I don't think they were chasing Tuna!
Pete's baby killer whales in the black leather jackets surrounded us. If they didn't have those big teeth I might have tried to pet one!! They were close enough to the boat. No fear there in those guys.
Man - the water got really nice and flat Saturday. Coming back over the CR bar at max ebb had a little pucker factor though.
PS - bottom fishing was great again. Salmon fishing wasn't too bad either. Ya - We pulled up about a 15 lb nook from 400 feet on a shrimp fly. Good thing their bladders don't blow up.

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
2003 is going to be the year I finally take a shot at tuna fishing. This is something I've wanted to try for quite some time but never took the opportunity to do. Don't have the correct boat or gear so will have to keep tabs on what the charters are doing and then set a date, unless I can work something out with someone who has an open seat.
Past ocean experiences have been salmon and bottomfishing off the OR/WA coasts, and fishing for Ono/Mahi/etc. off the Kona coast. I anticipate that this would be a great addition to my memories.
Have also fished hali on several occassions in Cook Inlet and think I'll try to give it a try this coming year off the OR coast. Again, will probably need to keep my eye on the charters due to lack of transport/gear.

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Ok, so get your terminology straight. Geez we went over this at the last TA meeting.
Tunial - See also denial and weather vortex. The refusal to accept the reality of life on shore vs. any hope, no matter how remote, that you might actually get to go tuna fishing soon.
Weather Vortex - The daily checking by tuna addicts of the various weather predictions and internet sites used by professional forecasters to predict weather and ocean conditions in the distant future and trying to plan tuna trips based on this information. Accompanied by adrenaline and also severe depression as the planned for day goes through daily iterations of prediction good and bad, better and worse as the day approaches.
8 months to go. Hey Rod, what are the 12 steps again?

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Hey Pilar, I think we ought to go ahead and start that charitable organization. It looks like we'll have our hands full travelling the coast helping our fellow tuna-holics.
What a great group! We don't try to help you recover, we just try to help you deal with it and then enable you even more! hahaha!
How's this for a slogan: "Cultivating and Enabling tuna-holics everywhere!"

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
The answer to the pole results is actually very simple:
Of the (1) that answered No and the (13) that have answered "Maybe"
All 14 are in Tunial (See previous definition)
So, your brain said no, but your heart said yes. Now everyone has voted yes = 100% at the time of this posting.
Fuzzy math? Sure.

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Holy mother! There's more infected people than I thought!
O.k., o.k., stay calm. Relax, try not to think about tttttttttuna.
Is it wrong that I use the word "love" more when talking about tuna than when talking about my wife?
Is it wrong that I wanted to name my new son tuna killer?
Is it wrong that I steal change from my daughter's piggy bank in order to supplement my tuna gas money fund?
Is it wrong that I want to have a life size tuna tattooed to my back?
Is it wrong I gave my wife earings for her birthday that I had made out of 6" Zukers?
Is it wrong that I've created a new fishing reel/handline by using the garden hose reel with 7000 ft. of 300lb mono?
Someone please help, I can't wait 8 months!
Join me in the Serenity Prayer:
God grant me the serenity to accept the fact I cannot go out for tuna again this year,
the courage to live another day without tuna,
and the wisdom to know they will come again.
Please review the 12 Steps To Recovery
1. Put the poles down and slowly back away.
2. Stop hiding lures in various places in the house.
3. Never mistakenly call your spouse "Tuna" during love making.
4. As hard as it is to believe, not everyone enjoys tuna fishing.
5. Selling your car in order to buy more gas to go tuna fishing is not recommended.
6. There are other fish in the sea.
7. Leaving work daily to get home and accept packages from UPS/FedX is wrong.
8. No more telling your spouse the truck broke down while you were out fishing so you'll have to stay another day, or in extreme cases a week.
9. If extreme withdrawls have set in, for instance random "hook setting" while at work or home, or making the zzzzzzzzzzzz sound constantly, do not let the tuna-holic near any fishing articles like magazines, fishing gear, or boats as that will make matters worse.
10. Tuna fishing is not a replacement for eating.
11. Unlike AA, recovery should be made away from other tuna-holics. Gathering tuna-holics together will only create more problems.
12. It is not acceptable to miss your child's birth because you were out tuna fishing.(my wife told me that one)

Rod, you're the best! I'm laughing so hard I'm gonna need a change of .... nevermind. I just know you pronounce tu-na like Homer Simpson pronounces Do-nutsssssssss.
We all should get coffee mugs that say "I'm a friend of Rod L." instead of Bill W. like the AA guys have.
Or we could call it "Albacore Anonymous", AA for short. TA has other nefarious meanings.
Yes, Jen we are enabling these poor lost souls.

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
I have never been tuna fishing but am definitely ill with the 'fever'. I have to resort to charters though since my boat is not seaworthy enough to head out that far......
IF ..and I mean if, anyone has an extra seat aboard next year pleeeeeaaaase let me know. I pay my way and bring refreshments...God knows how much I wnat to hook into one of them fishies...I have been on my knees enough already this year!
I don't know of any other type of fishing that can really get a man's ( or woman's) adrenalie rushing quite like tuna fishing....and I am just thinking about it!!!

Hey Mel, unless that Cabo trip happens in the next month, I don't think we're going to make it until then. How about next week?
How about it guys? Weeknight or weekend better for everyone? How about Friday, Nov. 1? I'll make the arrangements this time? We can call it TGIFBWWWWTF (Thank God It's Friday But We're Wishin' We Were Tuna Fishin')

I've gotta ask the Captain PM, but I don't think we have any plans on the 1st!
You are talking about Cabo aren't you. I'm in especially since your "making the arrangements". Just email my electronic ticket to me.
PS - I highly recommend you book us all at the Hacienda in their little Cabana's. It's great! I'll call my favorite Charter boat. I just need you visa number!

I sure wish I could book that trip to Cabo for next week, unfortunately, November is bad for me. Business travel coming up.
Let me clarify - How about a TGIFBWWWWTF meeting (Or AA for short) Friday, Nov 1?

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Wak - Don't forget to pack the Sailfish, Stripers, Dorado and maybe a Big Blue. Tuna is not the only game in town, it's a real tough choice down there this time of year, so many fish, so little time!
I'm jealous, have agreat time. I've got free air miles, just can't handle the Hotel, boat and food expense right now, otherwise.... :depressed:

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Hey Wak - You got a good charter set up? I went several trips with different outfits without catching any Bill's. Then I found a great skipper (my bro actually found them). His deck hand is also great and is now skippering the old boat and the captn has a new one. They are both great skippers and good company. We have never been out with them and not caught multiple Bill's. My bro has been out Tuna fishing in March with them and done well too! Let me know and I'll get you the info. I remember their names and the boat names, but don't remember the cahrter service name of f the top of my head. It's not one of the big outfits.

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
I have been down there about 6 times....and went out with a couple differant boats, that I can't remember the names of.
I and RJ went in March this year and went a couple days on the Baja Raider. Victor seems pretty knowledgable and we had a good trip...so I am going with him again.
Thanks

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
I and my girlfriend (wooo scary, eek...) are staying at Villa Del Palmar. I had a couple weeks per year there and I sold it to my brother, so he lets me go sometimes.
My brother and his girlfriend are going as well...also. I think the girls are only fishing one day, but we will go at least 2.
We got airfare for about 450 a piece this time.
Sometimes you can get packages that are not to bad, which is what we used to do.
I just talked to RJ and he is intertested in the June trip also.....yahoooo.

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
OOPs I never answered all your questions...we just charter the boat , which will fish up to 4 people....and it is 475, bait is another 20 or so, and tips...bring it up to about 600 per day.
Food used to be cheap but it is about like here nowdays.
Cabo has changed and it is not as cheap as before.....I bought 2 margaritas and a diet pepsi at Squid Roe and it was 25 dollars...GAG :depressed:
If you can make it, I will be looking for you....

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Hey Wak,
Cabo in 2 weeks,,, Hmmmmmmm. I just might be able to swing it. How much are you planning on paying for accomodations, fishing, food, etc. I will be bringing my better half, and our youngest daughter. They will not be fishing. Also, what do you need in the way of gear?
My wife has informed me that Tuna has replaced Halibut as her favorite fish, and all I have left is about 14 pint jars of good canned Tuna.
I just might be able to do one of my "yets".
Peace, Tom

Re: Tuna fishing? (poll)
Big Tule - "A" tuna? You want to catch "A" tuna?! You hook up with any of these guys, you'd better be ready to catch a BOATLOAD of tuna. Hit the gym. Train hard, 'cuz I can guarantee you, you're going to feel like your arms are falling off by the end of the day!
Wak - You're killin' me! Sheesh! MY boyfriend hasn't taken me to Cabo! (pout)
Have fun! Be sure to tell those bills how wonderful the water is here in Oregon - clean, clear, lots of yummy food to eat... How they'll be treated like celebrities... y'know... just don't let on about how that might happen!
