Run your boat over to the Washington side and crab behind the A jetty under the lighthouse in behind all the commercial pots. Skip the Oregon side, it usually sucks.

Also if you feel you must crab the Oregon side, use 2 or more floats, if the tide is moving (especially out) the current will sink a one float rig (sometimes even two) on a big tide exchange.

Are there commercial pots out already? I didn't think that the commercial crabbing started until sometime in December.

I went out at Hammond for the first time too this last Friday. Two of us in the boat with 6 traps and a few turkey drum sticks for bait. We got our limit in 45 minutes in around 26' of water by the Red bouy right out to the port side of the boat launch.
Crabbed the incoming tide with no problems other then a little wind.....Big Dave.

Ya OK I'll go along with Uglygreen. Skip the Oregon side the crabbing really sucks!
Every time I go there I get nuttin but cold and wet..... Whatever dude, 3 trips on the
Oregon side and we took over 150 Dungeness in less than a total of 9 hrs of crabbing. Just the same, ya all can crab over in Washington water if you want, just leaves more bugs for me!

Crabbing has been very good on the Oregon side for the last couple of months. Most important item is good pots. We have been getting 8-12 keepers per soak.
