Default Diamond Lake

My brother and I ended up on a guys trip to Diamond this past weekend since our wives were nervous about the weather reports and skeeters and our college age kids have jobs.
We ended up catching and releasing 89 trout with six over 18" and one about 21". The vast majority were 13-14". But these fish are growing at least one inch per month, so I'm thinking in September...

We have fished together at Diamond since the late fifties and rate this trip as among the best since we were there together. We both used our Reeder rods which some of you may know are amazing trout rods which made it fun. My brother used my Dad's old rod (he's gone now) and I used my original rod which I reconstructed a few years ago.

All in all a great time camping, catching fat and sassy Diamond Lake trout, and sitting by the fire reminiscing about our Diamond Lake experiences as kids.

Speaking of kids, if any of you have young kids who are old enough to go out in the boat and reel in fish, take them to Diamond. We saw so many kids having an absolute blast with their families. We got a kick out of one little girl in a neighboring boat who, every time she hooked a fish would yell "Fish on, Fish on" at the top of her lungs. Don't miss these opportunities to introduce kids to the sport we all love so much.

Sorry about no pictures. I tried, but I have dial up and it is so slow that I finally gave up. I'll try later.

I'm headed there Thursday around noon with the wife and my 10 yr. old son. I haven't been to Diamond since I was a kid and have fond memories today of the numerous, fat rainbows.

This is my first post on the forum ...have been reading for weeks, mostly about Diamond trying to educate myself before we go.

We are planning to camp in the Diamond Lake campground. I am curious if there are places to tie up boats at night either on docks or shore? How were the skeeters? I coming armed with lots of Deet stuff just in case. We'll be tenting it for about 3-4 days. Restrooms and running water in campground I assume?

I was there last weekend. No docks to tie up to but I saw a number of boats tied along spots on the shoreline. I was in the A section of Diamond Lake Campground and we had restrooms very close and a shower pretty close also. Skeeters are everywhere so lots of repellent is a great idea (we also used the repellent stakes around the campsite during the early evening). I escaped with no bites but everyone else in the group got bit at least once (they think I was drinking the repellent)

As for fishing, F4 Flatfish (frog) was hot lure for trolling with quite a few fish caught towards the middle of the lake. Mostly 14-16" but lost a big one up on the NE side in about 15' of water (GF's cousin had never trolled before or caught anything bigger than about 15" and wasn't prepared to have a fish stripping line off the reel and tried to horse it... snapped 6# line). The S side of the lake is also good down around the edges of the weed beds. Drift nightcrawlers with a small split shot or use powerbait.

we were down their 2 weeks ago & fishing off the shore was working fairly well for our neibhor. He was using a slip weight above his swievel with a 15 to 20 leader #4 worm hook 1/2 a night crawler stuffed on the hook & toped with a shrimp (pink) marshmello. his biggest was 22 with a bunch over 16. stay out of the weeds.
The hot spot seemed to be right off diamond campground in about 15-20' of water for trolling fenders (brass or 1/2&1/2) worked the best with a wedding ring in orange or green worm & corn topper.
Have fun

All of these good reports on Diamond really do bring back memories of the glory days. Gotta agree with Buck that it's one of the very best lakes to bring the kids. Lots of action and quality trout. We used to like to take a trip over there in October providing the weather was clear. The fishing was usually a little slower but the fish were prime and the campgrounds were not too crowded. Great time of year and place to go for us koke fanatics after our favorite pastime has come to an end.
