Default Winchester Bay Salmon

Any reports on salmon out of Winchester Bay? A few weeks ago the were in 280 - 320 ft. of water and down about 210 ft. Any updates?

Friends went out up 10 miles from Winchester Bay today. Couple of small hits, few fish on finder. ODF&W checker said that a few small ones are coming in. Some large, up to 50lbs, are being taken in the Umpqua. Most are dark, depending how far up you chase them. Pretty slow action

I got the same report from my nephew, Rich Oba. I spoke with him earlier this evening. He said don't waste your time on salmon. Better to go rockfishing on the local reefs. Some boats have been nailing the lingcods. The salmon have moved up to the Columbia or up the rivers. But there are tons of crabs and some really huge ones being caught.

As of right now the commercials and a select few sport boats are killing the salmon out at 400'. Commercials are averaging 2-300 fish a day. It's red hot and I think this last weekend there were only three sport boats out and they all limited on large fish. Basically it's finding the 51 degree water and you're in them. Unfortunately I'm unable to go before the season closes on the 31st. Hopefully someone gets out there to slay 'em. Not sure why winchester would be any different, but the commercials aren't talking about it much so they have most of the chances.
