$203.97.....
We filled up our work rig the other day here in Medford (down here working for a short stretch).
We let it get VERY low......it's a Ford Excursion Diesel, 44 gallon tank.
Total bill.......
$203.97
People forget that government agencies are going to be affected by this insanity as well. Especially land management agencies that have to drive a lot. Another big effect is paving!! A lot of petro-product in pavement, I believe, so all that highway work is going to keep getting more and more expensive.
Fire season uses a big bunch of fuel each year, between wildland fire rigs, helicopters, aerial tankers, etc. Maybe this will be the year we finally just let things burn?

Re: $203.97.....
I hope not - for my son's sake. He was just hired to a fire crew. I saw on the news the other day that some county road crews are going to a 4-day work week, which is one of the smartest things I've heard a local government do in a long time.

Re: $203.97.....
Just yesterday four energy analysts testified to congress the price of retail gasoline could fall by half, to around $2 a gallon, within 30 days of passage of a law to limit speculation in energy-futures markets. Why should we let a few energy-futures speculators stiffle the entire nations economy like Enron did to California?

Re: $203.97.....
That would be great to see the prices go down for Gas but unfortantly, companies will not lower their prices now that they got us paying so much for things. Our state tax revenue is going to be hampered with prices going through the roof. They will be asking for more money soon enough.

Re: $203.97.....
I saw that as well or another related article. But I got to say that the levels of investment in funds in the futures and the resulting loss that could occur would have a ripple. Its not like a few people are invested in these futures markets. It really is a loose loose in the grand scheme of things and I hope the traders that have manipulated the markets are held accountable.
I do know that the price of oil is WAY off the cost of production.

I dumped my holdings in oil last week, because the drop is coming.
When is the question. That is the real reason the market is down----
selling. But it is down because it's summer, also.

Re: $203.97.....
In regards to highway maintenance the other factor is our highways are paid for through gasoline tax. A small reduction in gas sales equals no money for highway maintenance statewide. Add to that the increasing costs for maintenance and you are in a perpetual snowball that results in no highway projects statewide.
City of Portland alone had to add an additional 2 million dollars to its budget to help offset the shortage of gas tax monies. Imagine that on a statewide level.
It better come down soon or our economy will collapse.....

I don't know about the collapse but the infrastructure will for sure suffer. Cops on foot or bikes, roads repair that is now at a minimal expenditure will be getting even worse. Garbage pick up will go up and other service calls will have to raise prices and this to an already stretched budget of the average homeowner.

And we're all shifting to more efficient vehicles, on TOP of driving less? That's going to radically decrease the available funds tax dollars, on top of everything costing more!
Scary what could happen, isn't it?

Re: $203.97.....
agree there.....our Excursion is loaded to the gills with work stuff, just going to a smaller more efficient vehicle won't work, we'd have to buy two.
hey, wait a minute, we've already been told we have to get rid of our fuel guzzlers, and we can replace one big one with 2 smaller ones.
let's see, around 14mpg with the Ex diesel. Put the same load shared between 2 4x4 crew cab Chevy Colorados (current federal small truck of choice) at 19-20mpgs...per rig, MAYBE. Interesting math, sounds classic, don't it!!!
scary thing is, it's actual what some federal agencies have been told to do!! ARRRGGGHHH.
