Default If you were a betting man, weekend weather

So with the high, high, possibly 100 degrees on Sunday in the PDX area do you realistically think you have a toothpicks chance in hades of actually fishing.

Now taking bets.

Well, Bernie, since you didn't qualify "fishing" I'm thinking that I just might be fishing - could be CR, Sandy, Clackamas or even Mt. Hood CC pond with the girls. I will not, however, be fishing beyond the sandy beaches based on what I'm seeing on Wetsand.

Our local Weatherman just said offshore winds for Sat, this can make for a nice ocean, as well as warm the Water up, might be just what we need.

Howabout dark until around 10ish when the sun starts heating up the valley. Probably not enough for all depth halibut, but maybe a coho or 2 (if they show up and there is still quota to catch).

I doubt it those kind of temperatures usually stir the coastal winds up fiercely! Looks like Californias weather is moving North.

I don't bet on the weather but if it is bad I will blame Bernie since he brought it up on a Monday.

East wind at the beach has never been productive catching for me.

See the poll is heavy on the carbon footprint via lawn tractors so far.

Walter, I am taking responsibiltiy for that.

This poll appears to be rigged so as to produce a certain outcome. I am most concerned about what happens to the toothpicks at higher temperatures. There is no question relating to that whatsoever, probably by design.

Just to clarify, when Treb says "Hairly Eye Ball", what that really means is "hair raising run with your eyeball shoved up against the windshield looking for a gap in the swells wide enough to turn the boat around so that we can get back to a topnotch breakfast.... "

Bernie, I don't bet, but if I did... I'd say that really high inland temps usually brings windy offshore conditions. 7 to 2 odds on more wind than fish.

Sure would like to get out for some hali and salmon but it's not looking good. I'm going to make a decision in a couple of days. Salmon in the river is open. Fill up for the lawn tractor at over $30 so it's the push mower for me and I've only been mowing every two weeks. Hopefully I won't be getting a visit from the home owner's association for the tall grass.

My son and I will probably be kokanee fishing somewhere where there is less wind. Actually, he is probably hoping for wind so that I take him out on a lake instead - he doesn't do the ocean yet.
On the good side, if the halibut quota lasts long enough, I'll make my runs for combos of tuna and halibut and save some fuel.
Oregon - so many opportunities, gotta love it

Yep!, Just a couple years ago we would show up on a Wed, or Thurs eve on a all depth Halibut date, & go out early each day...if the Coast Guard said we can, Fuel Prices have changed that routine for sure.

Gotta justify the trip down there somehow. Besides, my wife was disappointed when I came home emptyhanded from the last sturgeon trip.

Walter, I am taking responsibiltiy for that.

I am going to alter the method of my carbon footprint this weekend. I am going to conserve the gallon or so of diesel needed to pull the boat to the dock and instead burn gasoline in my lawnmower and powerwasher. I will also be responsible for emissions from paint, deck stain, other associated materials and charcoal starter.

See you this weekend

Doing the hairy eyeball thing used to be more necessary when all we had was NOAA predicting for the entire coastline. Now with wetsand and it's superb reliability I don't feel the need to question their predicitions since so far it's been pretty darn accurate.

Funny the difference in saturdays predictions from the powers of NOAA and Wetsand. Noaa says 4 and 6 as of 3pm. Wetsand says 2 and 3. if 2 and 3 we fish. 4 and 6 ah.....................Mr. Fisherman's Tractor derby it is.

With the high temps in the valley the wind is sure to blow. Stay home mow the yard catch chinooks in the river. 4th of July head west for tuna if at all possible.

Our guys want to go for nooks on CR and maybe shad to use another weekend in the salt. Report I've seen went 5 on 6 with 26 kt winds.

Sounds like fishing on all fours.

With a snotty ocean predicted, I am making plans to join in the fun on a limited chance at some magnificant summer chinook and then perhaps back down to the esturary for some gators if they extend the season.

Not the SALT, but still a throbbing rod and great fun.

2 and 4 is fun
