Nothing wrong with aluminum in tyhe ocean! I fished wood and fiberglass boats for years, on the ocean and when I decided to re-enter the boating world, finally selected a 20 foot searunner...great for the Columbia, cabaple on lakes and for "family fun", O.K. on salmon rivers, at least larger ones and tidewater, and hopefully will soon be active on TB. On the ocean it is well mannered and capable. Have been out for tuna comfortably and have great confidence in it's sea keeping. Just cause your boat is not an "Oean boat" doesn't mean it can't serve that purpose...as long as it is set up for ocean safety and used wisely. I predominantly do ocean and would not trade my boat for an ocean only boat (my wife would kill me anyway!)

There are drawbacks to an aluminum boat in saltwater but they can be reduced with a little zinc and and wash down. Fiberglass boats need zinks and a hosing too. I would rather have a steel hull than an aluminum in saltwater, it is easier to repair damaged steel than aluminum and steel is tougher. Much heavier and the boat would be slower but that is the trade off.

Hey Paul... you can sneak away for 2 hours. Just tell your fiancee that you have to go to home depot to get... um... some baseboard padding. Yeah, that's it. Special pads that you put down over your baseboards to keep the carpet installers from splitting them when they install the carpet.

Why would that take 2 hours? Hmm... well, you went to the one off of Murray Rd. But they were out of the pads. So they called over to the one on TV Hwy and they said they had them. But by the time you got there, they were out. You ran into an ifisher who then dragged you bodily down the street to Juan Colorado's and made you sit and listen to tuna fishing stories. C'mon man!

Best I ever pulled was working at a Grocery store and convincing one of the new baggers that it was his job to shake the sald dressing to make sure it looked good. Miss B.H., Sometime I would like to come to one of your meetings. Right now they have me working swingshift and I won't be able to get away. I have only fished once for tuna, while in the Coast Guard when were in Samoa. We caught several small Blue fin (I believe). But that trip has stuck with me. I only have a 19' Northriver so I don't think I would have enough room for ice and such to make that kind of run. I think my Honda 130 with 40 gals of gas would be enough on a good day but I would have trouble driving back trying to sit on those slippery fish. Have fun at the meeting and congratulations to Ugly Green and that monster he caught.

Also coastwatch updated to the 6th... no really clear pics, but there are some hints that the water we found is still there... maybe moved 10 miles south or so? The forecast is lookin decent as well... I would be in for another trip. Bring my lucky feather jig and all that.

Tried to lookup info on Pacific Bluefin fishing... and there is not a lot of stuff out there, wonder why???

There is a lot of info on the Alantic and Southern bluefin. I wondered why till I saw the following photo...

Thats what I want to catch..... WOW.

From the little info I did see on the smaller Pacific cousin, looks like 102 lbs is about on the smaller end of midsize... Most range from 50-250 lbs, live in the cooler waters of the north / central pacific, and are the slowest growing of all tuna.

Any other info?

I'm like Keta though, never been to a big city like Hillsboro before, so I need some directions - if there's still room at the table...

I need to talk boats and riggin' with you guys, since I'm planning on buying a new boat to go hunting. When I bought my sled I didn't realize it would keep me out of the ocean. I feel like I'm confined to soft water and stuck behind the bar, just *reading* about the real fun. Might as well just watch it on TV. Can't live with that! And somehow I have this uneasy feeling that "two of everything" doesn't just mean two rods, two reels, two fish traps, two - well, you get the idea.

So anybody got directions? Are the UnInitiated, UnBlooded, Wannabes welcome? There is no blood on my hands, but the fever is in my soul, and I will be out there next year!

Skein: Where you coming from? If you know where hwy 26 is, you've got it made. Take the Shute Rd, Cornelius Pass or 185th exits. Turn south. When you get to Cornell Rd, turn west. Cornell will curve to the south and become 10th. It curves east and becomes TV Hwy. Juan Colorado's is on the inside (left) on that curve. Email me if you need further.

No, we haven't been back - we went deer hunting on the east side. My wife got her first buck. Neat hunt.

I'm planning on going back down there this weekend. Did your information help? Well, yes and no. It gave me a good idea of what worked, but for the life of me I can't put it all together in my mind - where the beads go and where the blades went.

I wonder if they're still staging down there or if the little bit of rain washed them through. I'm sure hearing lots of good things about Marie's shrimp scent. I'd like to get some and try it. I'm also going to take my flyrod next time just in case. There were enough fish in the river and they were shallow enough that I think a sink-tip could get down to them. Coat a big, gaudy shrimpfly with Marie's finest and who knows....

Then on to the Portland early to avoid the rush hour trafic :shocked: I have an interview on Thursday and then I will be visiting my brother and parents or fishing for a few days. I want to take my brother down to Reedsport on Monday and fish for the day and then back to KF.

I will bring the rig that was killing the coho to the meeting. If you don't make it I will try to contact you and meet up somewhere. I want to go to Philomuth (sp?) to look at something when I am in the area.

I've got it bad - the kids came home with a video game called "Animal Crossing". Long story short, I've resisted playing this game where you build a virtual town and earn money to buy a house, etc.

Well, yesterday, my daughter informed me that you can go tuna fishing - and that tuna are worth a LOT of bells (money). Needless to say, I was up until midnight trying to pay off my virtual house so that I could get on with tuna fishing. I convinced my son to order me a fishing pole. It should be arriving today. I'm heading home at lunch to check my virtual mailbox and see if it arrived :grin:
