Default Brookings Tuna???

Anyone hear of any tuna caught recently from Brookings??? Some nice water straight offshore on the outside of the Hecata Banks. Looks to be about 40 miles and 58 degrees with a good hard temp break.

Sorry guys...........I just can't quite let it slip away without another shot. If we hear that tuna are within range of Brookings........anyone want to go???

Now here is an ifisher in serious need of attending a Tuna-holics Anonymous meeting. Not content that the Ducks won and the beavs and dogs got spanked. (Couldn't resist... Being a Duck fan from way back....)

Remember that the terrafin charts color bar changes as the season goes on. What looks like hot water is really tepid. Even the best commercial tuna fishermen only scratched this year in WB and Charleston. Most of the commercial fishermen are gearing up for crab. They won't even think of going out this time of year for tuna.

As one of them told me, going south beyond Cape Blanco and Cape St. George in the Fall is taking you life in your hands. If a southerly comes up, it can be like the storm of 1972 that was chronicled in the Oregon Coast magazine.

Look at: http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/PSB/EPS/SS...washngtn.c.gif
It has the offshore temps. You can see the the currents are rapidly retreating.

Better to buy a ticket on Alaska Airlines for SD or further south. Besides Alaska is offering a deal on their web specials.

Isn't Columbus day real close? A few of us natives remember that one too!

Miss B, I remember the Columbus Day storm well. That one and the 2/7/02 storm. Very similar but the '02 storm was more localized. But they can occur at anytime when the pacific high and inland lows lineup to cause drastic isobar contours.

What my commercial friends say is that the region between Cape Blanco and Cape St. George is where the high and lows often converge. When you have that, the pressure gradients are steep and winds can come up suddenly and quite violently. It is similar to Cape Conception on the California coast.
