Yep
I was using the new rod because I did not have any other rods that were good for bottom fishing
Some tweekers broke into my boat AGAIN and got me for 6 salmom/bottom fishing rods a tackle box of gear and a handheld GPS
The wind did come up Saturday and made the drift nearly impossible to get down with 6 ounces of lead
We got a late start and that sweet new ride of Brooks had us on the grounds before the charters even got there
Sunday was pretty snotty so we bagged fishing after a couple of hours and Brook got to see what it is like to run against the wind and waves
Thanks again Brook I enjoyed being crew

Thanks Ken and all
I guess I am getting used to it
I am not even upset over it
can you say NUMB??
The insurance hassle started yesterday and they said it will be about 2 weeks before it gets settled
I guess I can use my halibut rods for salmon fishing until I get them replaced

Re: bottom fishing out of Depoe Bay
Sorry to hear about your loss Hank. The thieves really like you. I have a couple of Cabela's brand salmon rods you are welcome to and an Ugly Stick salmon rod that needs an eye replaced.

Thanks Thuan
I lost 6 rods but will only replace 4 when I get the $ from the insurance due to a $500 deductible
Dang stuff sure does add up
The adjuster and I came up with over $3200 to replace what was lost
Less the $500 I will get about $2700
The adjuster suggested doing a complete inventory of the rest of my gear along with pictures for any future claim
And SAVE your reciepts they will help you get full value back on stolen items
I will let you know if I need those rods

Re: bottom fishing out of Depoe Bay
Hank is there any way to remove the gear from your boat when you park it?
Maybe leave a few non returnable pop bottles there to distract them while your new Rottweiler XXXXXXX.
I don't leave anything in my boat. It all comes off the boat no matter how much of a pain in your petunia it is. I'm joining 'Puffin' in donating TUNA! to the guys you see begging for money and pushing a shopping cart full of scrap metal and pop cans.
A few strategically located tuna carcasses on popular begging corners should do the trick. Yellow jackets find tuna no matter where you leave it. Also any unattended pop can collection shopping carts may get deck loaded with carc as well.
I don't know what to do about the gas thieves but I'm thinking along the lines of road flare and car full of gas cans.

John
I rented a small shop there to keep my stuff locked up in (went halves with hitekrdnek) of course thieves will break in if they want in
A guy can only secure things to a point
But I will no longer leave anything on the boat that is worth more than $5
Thinking of an alarm and a video surveillance camera to help deter them

Todd
I gotta admit that trip spoiled me for sure
Sure was nice riding in total comfort
Not sure it was a downside not being the skipper though
Was great just enjoying fishing and riding without the responsibility of running the boat
I don't want one that big but I will ride any time I am invited

Brook-
Rod & i were really pleased to have met you-we so appreciated the opportunity to board your boat-just really a beauty!!
Gosh hank- so sorry about your gear. Where was the spot rented? At the beach or near home? Hope it feels like you get fair treatment from the insurance co. Sure worth the warnings...................
