I have a Accumark Mark V .270 Weatherby Mag and love it. The only problem with them is the ammo costs minimum $40 a box. I started reloading it and am getting good results (the factory ammo is very good also just expensive). I have killed mule deer and elk almost every year with it and for the caliber it is very flat shooting and knocks them down good.

I am working up some loads with 150 gr Nosler ballistic tips. My best group was with 72 grains of Relodr 25(bottom left, shot that is off was me) averaging about 3200 fps. Let's just say the gun is a better shooter than I am.

This is a very good rifle for open areas. I use it in central Idaho a lot.

Another consideration is a 270 WSM but again ammo is expensive.

My dad uses his mark 5 270 in eastern oregon exclusively for antelope and mulies and the thing is the most accurate shooting gun if you reload. He used the 150 gr ballistic tips and they are amazingly accurate and deadly. He will not reload any nosler partitions in it for deer or antelope sized game because all it would do is burn a hole right thru them. elk the partitions would be fine though. get one and get ready to be amazed.

ditto what was said above. Just the fact that it's a Weatherby round makes it a flat-ass, fast as hell, expensive, one-ragged-hole, meat on the plate, big game killer. But is it the ONLY accurate round? no. and is it a necessity to hunt WY? no. The 2 most popular rounds in WY are the 30-06 and 243. Whatever you decide, practice until your wife threatens to divorce.

270 weatherby fine cartridge and very fine rifles, 270wsm while not as potent as weatherby is a up and coming star. More companys make and sell brass and loaded ammo at slightly less prices, and the all wsm's do not have any free-bore so the bullet doesn't have to jump .277 of an inch before it comes in contact with the rifling. When loading barnes bullets and a lot of bonded core bullets this can be a huge deal in the accuracy department, also you can head space off of shoulder instead of belt. To properly head space weatherby venturi shoulder very tricky for ultimate accuracy. Yes I know there are thousands of these weatherbys that are tack drivers I personally own a few I just also know they can be very very picky for reloading best of luck.....BS

More bullet selection with the 7MM Weatherby. That 270 is flat shooting and there's nothing wrong with it though. Good Luck
