Default Newport to Astoria

Couldn't get out to hunt for bullets Sat. so my friend, (and my CPA) Phil talked me into runnig his 46 Hat from South Beach to Astoria. Man what a ride! 100 to 200 yard visibility most of the way, and big pounders. I can't believe just because I was having longfin withdrawals, that I let him talk me into going.
Cap'n - I'll see what I can find out about the Peacock Bass Fishin' in Kauai (never heard of them) Also, Hook-up I'm going to try to find that paint store w/lures. Don't know how the fishing is in Kauai right now, but if at all possible I'm going to try to get out.

Popeye - You should have taken the Great Circle route from Newport to the CR. It runs about 80 miles off, just about where the Tuna are. Most great circle routes are shorter. This one is peculiar in that it's actually longer in distance. It also takes a long time because the speed limit with gear out is about 7 knots (you can push it a little without getting a ticket). Sure is a lot more fun than the direct route though

I hope I did not over state the cool stuff at the paint store place. It is kind of a hole in the wall but we just do not see that stuff around here. We also stopped at a KMart or WalMart and their sportings good section had some good stuff. So if you can not find the paint store (I think they had a web site to) try some of the local department store sporting goods.
Oh yeah, do not waste your money on the Fern Grotto. The water has been shut off by the farm owner and a storm wiped out all the ferns. The helicopter tour is well worth the money. Great snorkling to. If interested, let me know and I can give you some locations.

Hook-up - Thanks for the info but this is our 9th trip to Kauai, (it's our favorite Island). The Big Island is nice, but not too many good beaches, and Mauai is a little too much young crowd for an old cogier like me I guess. We're staying at Hanalei Bay in Princeville this time, but we usually stay in Kapaa. Would like to stay at Poipu some time though.
