Great barrier at the end of the track. He never had a chance.

I was thinkng the same.
I would guess that it is a, "it hasn't been a problem in the past" sort of thing.
I will guess that they will look at a longer run out after this.
RIP Scott Kalitta

What a stupid way to set up a track my God!!! I am in disbelief... I cannot believe the NHRA allowed that wall to remain in place... What track was this? Nobody ever sees these things coming until someone dies and everyone involved in the screwup starts looking around going "Oh, well shoot we should have seen that one coming..." We have all seen races where chutes fail and the drivers end up a hundred feet into the sand. The sand usually starts right about where that wall was. What a shameful waste of a mans life...

What track was this?.............. englishtown new jersey, and yeah i guess because it never happened before, they figured it never would! i go to seattle next week as i have for 20 years, and although the shutdown area is longer, it has douglas fur trees at the end! not a barrier wall! not they only race to 1000 feet instead of 1320! but hopefully they will extend some of the older tracks that were built when the cars were going much slower!
