Pilar - It gets better - latest is 2 and 4 on Sat. SST is marginal. Real time was mostly clouded over today. Looks like it's still doable at the 125 line here. South looks like it real cool clear out to 126. GOt some boats going out up here if the forecast holds and my buds terrafin looks good. Waddaya think?

Try that one. I get 59 - 60 right at the usual spot, '61 degrees'. Notice the well defined edge of cold right through the warmer area. I know where I will look if Neptunus Rex lets it happen.
I think we can sneak out there on the change and catch a flat day. Wishful thinking? Yeah maybe. We have caught plenty o fish in as low as 58 degree water.
Where is your dock for Saturday? Garibaldi is closer to the remaining water but I am very partial to Dopey bay. What do you think? Mis B?
What about the rest of you Tuna Junkies?

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Pilar - I'm at Warrenton, the Oregon map doesn't work for the CR/North coast, you gotta have the Washington view. Of course Terrafin doesn't list that on their free shots !
I'd say your looking good out of T-bay. Of course you've gotta get through the madness. Just take a battering ram for the bow. It's pretty far South for us to go to that nice bubble of water there. My bud wil lhave the North coast/Wash view tomorrow, he says he's going regardless "unless something scares him."

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Popeye (Or anyone) - whats the temp show at the 46 line. The free image terafin hasn't been updated since the 25th. Still nice and warm at that time.

Miss B - It's a partial shot, but what I can see shows 59 degrees at 45.50x125

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Terrafin doesn't have a very good view of the 46 lline, as there are clouds all the way to the 125. Right at the 125/46 area it looks cold to me, but there may be better water inside. The last terrafin with any kind of view was the 26 th at 4am. It shows a pretty good buble of warmer water with a good break around the 61 spot straight out of Depoe,,OR Nelson isand area straight out of Newport. I just checked the stonewall bouy and it is 9.2 ft.
If the swell comes down I think I am going to nose out there, test the waters and if it is a no go then limp back inside for a salmon or two. Sunday and Monday looks as if the swells will knock things down for awhile. I am going to run from Depoe, (I hope).

Marty - That orange water at Nelson's is pretty cold - 56 at best, I think we're looking at the same shot

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Thanks guys. The really bad new is the change in forecast from yesterday. With the weather coming in I think they're probably right. We'll likely pop our noses out at daylight and just see what it's like. 6 second ain't fun at all. :depressed:
.SAT...WIND RISING TO NW 15 KT. WIND WAVES 3 FT. NW SWELL 4 FT AT
6 SECONDS.
.SAT NIGHT...NW WIND INCREASING TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 3 FT. NW
SWELL 5 FT.

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
From the terrafin map of 9/26, it looks like the best shot is straight off Florence. Behind Heceta Banks. The water north seems to be falling apart. The partial shoot of the CR shows a lot of green water inbetween the warm water. From Florence it seems you could run straight out to the 125 line and dump them in. If anything I heard that the lings are biting good on the Banks. Florence is a tricky harbor to navigate from.

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Ya know, the weather guessers are wrong about this
particular senerio more often then they are right!
(IMHO).
We are looking at rain for Late Saturday/early Sunday.
Rain will most *usually* come at us from the South-
West. It is presently blowing NorthWest. On the
day before the weather change ... 'specially when we
are going from "good" weather to rain ... we usually
get anywhere from 8-24 hours of NO WIND, depending
on how fast the storm is moving in.
Of course, that does not mean we'll get a good ocean
to go along with the "no wind" day. A couple of things
that could effect the ocean conditions (besides wind)
are:
1) what the wind was doing the day/night before
the wind direction change. If it was really windy
the day before and late into the night the residule
wind chop *could* be pretty nasty.
2) what the wind is doing on the outside (100+ miles
off shore). Big winds on the outside can cause big
swells on the inside. Looks to be building this weekend
(Saturday afternoon) to 10-12 foot swells.
3) How fast the storm is moving in. Sometimes the
time between the wind blowing NW to when the wind starts
blowing SW can only be an hour or two. Not enough time
for the ocean to lay down during the change-over.
Hopefully the weatherman is wrong and we'll at least
get one good day on Saturday!!
Good luck folks! And people, let's be *careful* out
there, OK?

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Sensei - A little to far from CR to Florence unless we just KEEP GOING! The real time is mostly clouds, but what little open area there is doesn't look encouraging at all. Looks like a bottom fish day to me. Shale pile - here we come.
Fish Assassin - Hope you're right, we're going to stick our nose out in the AM and see, regardless of the forelies. Back to work now Assassin. To all - good luck this weekend. Give Miss B Haven a yell on 16 if anyone else goes out of the CR at daylight tomorrow.
Gotta go - FISH ON !

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Well the forecast is a little off but better. The deal is the fishy water is in full retreat.
Oh........ say it isn't so, it can't be over, no no no no nononooooooooooooooooo!

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Pilar, Looks like they will be updating in a couple of hours. The North picture was almost totally obscured. There is some nice warm water right off shore of Ilwalco. Like under the docks. That is the only pic on the map.

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
Hey Mel,
I find your footer pretty funny!
"There's only two rules in my boat:
First, you do anything the Captain says.
Second, my wife is the Captain !"
On *MY* boat *I'm* the captain ...
but my wife, she's the admiral!

Re: Hey Bill! ... anyone chasing fish Saturday?
The only reason I said Florence is that I think Pilar's boat is one of those that are amphibians and rest on a trailer. (You know the old saying about amphibians.)
Launching at Florence would give you a straight shot and less likely to have to deal with bad weather if the weatherman blows it and the winds come early. At least from Florence you get the winds to your backquarter running back in instead of your frontquarter running back in if you launched at Dopey Bay or Newpot.
Yeah... CR doesn't look good water wise.
