Long overdue Hailbut pic.. and some other.
Finally, here is the pic of the 60 inch, 109 lb halibut I caught at the rockpile in August. Also pictured is the 42 inch ling cod I caught. The ling bottomed out the 35 lb scale we had, and we forgot to weigh it on the big scale.
And now for some other pics I thought I'd throw in.
Here is the estimated 175 lb Striped Marlin, and 68 lb Mahi Mahi I caught during my vacation at Cabo a few years back. The marlin was released unharmed as it was the most awesome looking fish I had ever seen, and I couldn't bring myself to kill it. The mahi mahi was the best fighting fish I have ever had on my line.
Next up is my first albacore that I caught last year out of Winchester Bay, and some yellowtail that I caught down in San Diego on a charter.
Hope you enjoy these!

Ncie fish! I remember seeing that but on the dock in front of us at Newport.
You look like you're a little warmer in Cabo than up here!

Nice Halibut dude!
It's really a shame that the Dorado do not keep their killer colors for more than a few minutes after you bonk them. Marlin have a look with the electric blue on the pecs but Dorado take the cake for fight vs. size, eating and coloration.
Nice photos, thanks for sharing.

2 things I remember at the dock this year, 1 was your Halibut you where right in front of us when we came in and the other was the 5' Octopus some guy had in the bottom of his boat, what a discusting mess that was!

Cool pics! That dorado is a monster. I bet the photo hardly does the marlin justice in terms of the colors you saw at that moment.

Re: Long overdue Hailbut pic.. and some other.
Keta,
Nope no worms in the halibut, hehe. My wife loves octopus, but I find it too rubbery.
Fish Hunter,
I imagine if I had a polarized lens on the camera, the pic would have turned out a bit better. But yeah, for anyone who has seen a living striped marlin... it is truly amazing. The fight that 68 lb dorado put up was like nothing else I have experienced. Oversize sturgeon fishing comes close, though .

Re: Long overdue Hailbut pic.. and some other.
Nice pics!!!
Makes me want to find someplace where I can go chase those when I go on my honeymoon. I'm sure the wife would undestand the chance of a lifetime, right?
As for "wormy" halibut, like almost every other fish in the ocean, halibut get parasites in their flesh but mainly right under the skin. Most common that you see coil up in a concentic circle. Won't hurt you but can really gross out dinner guests and the rest of the family so pick em' out before you even cook them, especially where no on can see you doing it.
As for the few in the flesh, just candle the fillet/steak like you would an egg, they show up very well that way.
Used to work at a seafood market, can ya tell?

Slow Roll,
When's the honeymoon? I'lll be guiding down on the Pacific side of Costa Rica this winter/spring and would be happy too hook you up or recommend somebody in the area if you're interested. Absolutely beautiful place and the fishing for dorado/sails/marlin/tuna is pretty outstanding as well. If you're serious, add a post and I'll shoot you my E-mail.

Re: Long overdue Hailbut pic.. and some other.
Thanks Slow Roll, either I've been so lucky as to not catch a fish with worms or, well, I just didn't know it. Are they pretty obvious?

Re: Long overdue Hailbut pic.. and some other.
Sailfish,
The honeymoon isn't until next September so I have some time to plan.
Never been to Costa Rica, sounds like a good time to me. Need someplace that won't brak the bank, just bought a house and am trying to put some $$'s away for a boat.
Lovestafish, the ones that coil up can make a pretty large disc. Used to butcher 60 to 100 pounders from Alaska and would find them up to an inch in diameter.
Here are a couple of web pages that give some pretty good info on different parasites.
