Default Ocean Weather Prediction for October

Since a taste of winter is upon us, we begin to wonder how many fishable days we'll have left this season. So I embarked upon a mission to evaluate all proven tools in order to come up with a weather forecast for the next 1 1/2 months. My prediction is as follows:

There will continue to be unstable ocean conditions for about 2 1/2 weeks. Then after about the first week of October, there will be a wonderful break that will last for about 5 weeks, with most fishable days occurring during the week, and a few bad ones mixed in.

I determined this from a proven method known as Murphy forecasting. You see, I just got a jury duty summons that starts on October 7 and runs through mid November. Therefore it is almost a certainty that there will be many good days when I can not go. So don't put the gear away yet folks; good days are coming! Just please take pity on me and throw me one last fresh tuna loin....

Mark! Thanks for the Murphy prediction! That sounds like something that would happen to me!

We'll be sure to throw you some pity fish. Good luck with Jury Duty.

Mark,
I can't thank you enough for this amazing prediction. I know it is accurate, because it is a completely observable process that has occured in my own life just as you say. I am now preparing my boat for the obvious calm weather result of your jury duty.

What a stroke of misfortune..............I was just dusting off the Tiagra 50 wide 2 speed for the frenzy of bluefin action that is sure to be here in October and now you tell me I need another deckhand as you will be serving a 'higher' cause. Is there no justice in the world!! If you need expert testimony concerning your "illness", which will surely negate your jury duty obligations, I will be ready to hand said documents to the proper authority. But do take heart that it is ONLY a mere 295 days until my prediction of the first IFISH caught albie of 2003, which will be July 10.

Talk to you soon

Marty, if you bet on that date you will be the late show. We got our first 36 longfins on my little blue boat on 7/7/02 and I intend to beat that by a couple of weeks next year.

You see, I believe the fish are there long before the fishers are.

If you are not the lead dog the view never changes.

I think you are right about the fish being here earlier. Once the water hits 59 degrees, I think the fish are here. No one has gone out early to really test the theory as the commercials and the charters and everybody is still into catching salmon.

In San Diego there is an 'unofficial" contest for the first and last fish of the season. In fact last year one of the tackle stores anounced a $1,000.00 prize for the FIRST albie of the year. The guy that won it went out on Dec. 30, found a few fish and hung with them until the morniing of Jan. 1 and at 7:30 a.m. he was flying in with two fish. I guess someone else found some fish also and it was a boat race to the dock. Sounds kinda cool.

I talked to Chris at the Newport Marina Store about a tuna derby and I thought he was going to run with it, but next year maybe we could get some sponsors with prizes or tackle or whatever for a Derby of our own. Either a one day thing or a month long event with the biggest fish or the biggest 5 fish total wins. We could even have an entry fee that would increase the pot. BUT then again the bragging rights alone could almost keep a guy happy thru the winter. What am I talkin about, we have another month in THIS season........lets do it. O-K lets hear some input on a derby, biggest fish, five fish total, sign up????????? With great minds...........great things can happen.
