New to board
Hi guys, just a short message to say Hi. I have been reading this board for a month or so and I've been impressed with what a good group this is. I already know Salmonator, WP, Sturgn, and I've met Ryan Boat. Unfortunately, my little sled won't be making many more trips to the ocean this year, at least not by the looks of this weekends halibut forecast. Anyway, looking forward to talking with all of you.

Re: New to board
Welcome fellow salty one. I hear ya on this weeks forecast. I was planning on filling that last spot on my FB tag but it doesn't look to good. But then thats exactly why the season has lasted this long. Lots of big water days.
Now! How about that story!!

Re: New to board
Well, I coulc tell about the time a whale hit the back of my boat with his fluke, or the time a friend put a hook in my ear but didn't have the stomach to pull it out so I fished the siletz from moonshine to twin with it (orange yarn and all) in my lobe, only to have the counter girl at the logsden store say, "ya know ya got sumpin on yo ear?", but after following all your post for the past month I'll tell you the one that will most wet your appetite. I hauled my boat to Baja for the first time in June to fish for Dorado. On the very first day we were live bait fishing a bunch of sargasso grass when my buddy got a backlash in his reel. After a while I took over, forgetting about the mackrel still swimming under the paddy. Next thing I know I've got 80 lb. braided line wrapped around my index finger with a large dodo making tracks away from the boat. Turns out that I can scream like a little girl after all. Luckily the fish turned towards for a second, just long enough for me to get free and save my finger. I was a mess, and the fish got away, but the laughs on him since I'm still dining on mahi mahi.
Anyone up for a convoy to Mexico? WP?

Re: New to board
Killer tale! If you look on the back of my car you'll see a dorado sticker.
Nothing beats fishing for schoolies under a pile of sargasso weed with a free swimming bait.

Re: New to board
Great tale!!
The skipper of the Puffin was talking about learning Spanish, so we could make a trip to Mexico. That is something I need to explore.
I enjoyed yur graphic story telling.
Have a smooth day,
Peace, Tom

Re: New to board
hey Chris! Good to hear from you...as you are well aware, I am ready to go to the Baja yesterday, if not before! Got my boat, got my rod, got my girl...what else is needed? Maybe over Christmas? How is the gulf then? I think I am hungry for Mahi Mahi!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">That's what I'm talking about and why my new boat must be trailerable. Guess who is studying Spanish as well. If you guessed, avid, you are right! I can see it now, the Salty Dogs-Spanish edition. Wahooooo!

Re: New to board
Welcome aboard Chris! My wife doesn't fish much, but she speaks fluent Spanish. I think I will have to get her into fishing more, or have her work on my Spanglish. I don't think the works in Spanish I know will get me any where but in trouble!
Mahi Mahi or El Dorado - one of the best tasting tuna's around.

Re: New to board
I lived in Arizona for 13 years and went to Mexico religiously. Used to speak fluent spanish but realized I only needed a few key phrases listed below:
Rod's Spanish 101
1. Mas Cerveza Por Favor (More beer please)
2. Cuanto es? (How much is it?)
3. Gracias (Thank you)
4. Es no problemo (It's no problem)
5. Adios, Amigo! (Goodbye friend, or go with God friend)
WP, forget the girl. It's better you forget her now because you'll surely forget her after a few tequilas in Mexico. Trust me I know!
As your spanish improves you can use sentences like...Cuanto por la mujer alli? Oh wait, never mind that last one. That goes back to the advice I gave WP!
Just kidding. I actually proposed to my wife in Rocky Point, Mexico.
Let's go, I'm in!
