Default Motorcycle Mini trip

Well,

You folks know I recently picked up a little 1978 Honda 180 cc. Twinstar.

Just a little bike,
but man

is it a ton of fun to ride.

Anya took off for work and I decided to crank that little twinstar over.

While she warmed up
I got dressed

I can not afford leather (overpants) right now, so I put on my blue jeans and threw on a pair of normally too big Carhartts (with the double knees)

my old leather jacket

and just for the heck of it
a heavy polypro turtleneck

I donned my cycling gloves

My helmet with all kinds of red and white fishing lure sticker stuff

And over the top of it all, put on a construction crew yellow long sleeved windbreaker… I mean you could see me from 10,000 feet!

Drove to the north

up towards where the Lewis river feeds down from the hills and hung a rt (east).
Following her waters

Back roads and cows and horses with foals

Daisies are trying
The breeze blows
Bees are trying to catch a ray of sun to speed them up (they’ve got so much work to do)

I’m flying
Along fencerows
Through fields
Past long sweeping arms
of blue green water

It feels good

Went up along the S side of the Lewis river to where the hatchery is

There were a few guys there

Under the heavy maples I climbed up and out of the valley

I was thinking that a deer might like the space in the heat of the summer
Thick
Cool
Shadows rise and fall

Just then a spotted fawn got up and started to run out into the road

Time stood still and as I was accelerating in 2nd (probably going about 25 mph up a really steep hill with loads of switchbacks and 2 lanes at best).

I stood on the pegs and covered the clutch and brake.
Somehow I managed to coerce the fawn back into the hedge along the roadside

Didn’t have to hit it or ditch the whole thing into the trees

Rode on up to the Ranger station just N of Chelatchee prairie and on down to the lakes on the lewis

It was cold (I was cold)

So I got out and parked at the ranger station (which looks like it was just rebuilt) and went in to consult the map on the wall

Talked with a local oldster that was walking to the only store in the region
He seemed to be a character

Said he’d been up there since the late 60s
“Moved here for the hunting and fishing”
I said, “well, cant pick a better place”

He added, “when the mountain blew, that pretty much wrecked the hunting for me”
I said, “there is a fawn down the road that may spike out in the fall that nearly sent me sailing into the river”
“Might turn into a trophy buck I said”,

“or a trophy burger” he retorted.

We laughed and shook hands.

He said “keep spry”
I promised him I would.

Came back home through Battleground on 503.

That little twinstar put on 80 something miles today. Not a problem.

I did hit a little gravel and got sideways for about 1/64th of a second, but was able to straighten things out (guess racing mtn bikes for 5 years helps).

Saw a guy out there that might have been a buddy of mine riding a V strom…. We passed each other a couple of times and waved.

All in all,

A pretty decent bike trip

When I first started riding last year, I thought that I would just commute around on the bike, run errands and go to and from work. The idea that I'd hop on the bike just for a ride was pretty foreign to me. It didn't take long for my perspective to change. Nothing better after a morning of fishing than coming home for a nice little ride though the country. Some quick 'twisties', a few lazy lanes and a lot of countryside can do wonders for the soul.

ps: I'm sure your post has pics but I can't see them from work. I'll bet they're nice; they usually are.

Me either. So I'll have to check later tonight.

I can't talk the wife into letting me get a bike.
