Default most disturbing incident on the water?

i had this happen to me last year:

while shad fishing with my wife and a friend of mine, i was
thrown into the river. if anyone has ever shad fished,
it truly becomes combat fishing at the around the start of june
since there's only a few days in the month where less than
100,000 shad pass through bonneville.

i was on the robins island bank when a 300 pound gorilla decided squeeze
between me and a guy that had been fishing along with us for hours.
i had to walk over help re-tie ed's line but stood my 8'6 length rod vertically that was no more than 4 or 5 feet away from my neighbor on the right.

so i walked over, as this guy proceeded to set up his gear and
i said politely how crowded it was now going to be and if he
didn't mind waiting another 15 minutes that my party would be
gone. he basically gave me the eff you you kind of response.

as i make a few casts, i say that hopefully nobody hooks an ear or an
eye or anything and he replies by saying "maybe i don't get your eye!"
i took that as a threat and knew things were going down hill from
there. during this time, he was waving a big friggin knife around cutting his line when he could of used his clippers in the tackle box.

then i set the hook on a fish..as i attempted to drag it up onto
the bank, i barley smacked his leg and before i could turn around
to see it coming, he sent me flying into the cold water. it was sort of scary
cause i landed on my right side hip top of a submerged boulder and
of course the 5 or 6 sturgeon swimmin around.

i immediately got back up and noticed he then picked up a huge rock and
was trying to rush me with it, so my buddy rushed over and together
we took him down and had him pinned while my wife called the cops.

long story short, he was arrested and cited with disorderly conduct, assault 4, and menacing.

I'd expect that for some of our armed members here, he may have ended up with a bit more when they saw that rock heading their direction.

That was last year right ?

I was there when it happened. Didn't see the whole thing but it looked like the guy was being a real pain in the rear.

Combat fishing can be a real pain

If you see that there is no room to fit in, find another spot to fish. Don't crowd in.

It blows me away that people can even be like that. What drives a person to do that sort of thing? I just don't get it...

no way~

yeah, i've run into him a few times this year
already...he's the cat that dumps multiple
loaves of bread upon arrival, i guess it's
his pre-fish offerings to the gods.

the things became a dead issue at the end of
it since i never pursued any formal charges.
should of though, considering both our cell
phones and digital cameras were toast

Why not call the police? Woud you just get up and walk away hoping the guy who was just running at you with a rock will all of a sudden not want to hurt you?

I am guessing that the fine the guy would get for the charged would not stop him from doing the same thing again. From the sounds of it, Jail or a Fine will not change a person like that. I could see not pressing charges, that can be a lot of hassel some times.

People and societies like this will push and continue pushing until they are stopped. Most people are genuinely nice and won't do the stopping.

Glad you had him arrested.

Unfortunately, he probably sees it that he won in the end.

Wow, sounds like the gorilla I met on the Sandy during coho who threatened to break my face until I told him I'd sue him until his family was on welfare. PSU kid, we might have to talk some time to see if this guy is the same samoan. If so he needs charges to stick on him showing a history because I'm not going to be the last guy he bullies. Dude even charged me but stopped after I said the word "sue" he didn't know my friend and I had back up on us. That would of been a very bad day for me and even worse for him. What would make a 250 lb person take on two guys. I personaly thought he was on drugs.

Talking Re: most disturbing incident on the water?

I'm kind of an xxx when people like that fish near me. I purposely cast over their line or as close to their boat as possible. I geuss it could prove to be dangerous. I hope that guy learned his lesson.

Ryan, have You ever shot anyone?? It is not a pleasant experience. In a fight with a rock, not on your own property, shooting someone may land You in jail. I have shot a human being and it is not pleasant. No, I didn't go to jail, but it tied me up for awhile with the authorities.
