Smile Crescent and Odell show and tell!!!

I took the family to Crescent Lake this last week from Thursday through Sunday for a father’s day getaway. We rented a cabin with Crescent Creek Cottages and had a really good stay. I also was able to try out some new fishing partners as it was my daughter and wife’s first time fishing for kokanee with me.

We started out Thursday evening fishing Crescent Lake by the Boy Scout Camp. With out to much effort we were able to pick up fourteen in just a few hours. The water temp was 51 degrees and the fish were spread out at different depths but the most consistent was around 40’.

Friday started out at Odell. The water was 47 degrees, I launched at the ramp on the east end of the lake I think that is Sunset Cove, and fished strait out from the ramp. We picked up nine before we could get across the lake, but after that the fishing slowed down for us. I continued to fish the same spot for a few more hours and then headed up the lake to find better fishing. I found it just as the wind picked up and I needed to get back to camp.

Friday evening we were back at Crescent and fished around the island. We started fishing at 4:00 and by 8:00 my kids, my wife and I had all caught our fish, twenty five. That was the first time I have ever limited the boat.

Saturday morning I was back at Odell we trolled across the lake again and only picked up two so we shot over to ware we ended the morning before. Fishing was pretty good we picked up fish almost every were we trolled. At one point after 10:00 I only had one spinner that was catching fish. I tried several other spinners but after seven in a row finally switched another rod to the same spinner and landed two on that rod before I had to leave.

Saturday evening I was back at Crescent Lake. The fishing was good but not like Friday, this was ok with us because the fish were all bigger, 13” and 14”.

Sunday we packed up to leave in the morning but still stopped by Crescent for one last troll around the lake. 12:00 till 3:00 we trolled by the Boy Scout Camp and picked up 11 more. That was the best midday bit at Crescent I have seen.

Before I left I gave two of my best spinners to a guy fishing with his family that had not had any luck. I don’t know how his day ended but I hope the luck I was having stayed with the spinners the rest of the day.

This was my daughter's first fish ever and the bigget fish of the trip. She caught the two biggest fish of the trip.

The two fingers are for two fish in a row. After he landed one fish I was busy dealing with the fish on the floor when he saw my rod go off and with out saying a thing started reeling it in. It was a proud moment for me.

This was one of the best midday spinner at Crescent

Here are a few of the top spinners this trip. In my gallery I have close up pic’s of these spinners. http://www.ifish.net/gallery/showgal.../15535/cat/500

After my last trip I retied my spinners with less of a space between the hooks and I used a #4 hook inside a #2 and I only baited the inside hook. I had a lot better luck with this set up compared to my last trip.

Thanks for the detailed report and pics. Nothing like a good family fishing trip to bring out the smiles. We were over at Odell Friday-Sunday jigging mostly outside the Trapper area. Didn't get a chance to meet you...maybe next time . The fishing was really good. Trollers and jiggers were both scoring well. Any time I can get a 50 fish limit it has to be hot. The excellent weather helped a bunch too. I would recommend anyone who wants to bring back a bunch of kokes to try to head over there while it's still hot. Just about all jigs were working. People were using a variety of them and most were catching fish. A lot of Buzz Bombs and orange Nordics. The main thing was to be in the right area and depth. When it was calm, wind drifting was best. Most were caught off the bottom but early in the day casting was working too. I used mostly two jigs. A 1/2 oz white glow Cabela's "Real Image" jig and Aufishs' 1/2 oz white and orange caster. The West end of the lake seemed to be best. If anybody doesn't have a fish finder just look for the clusters of boats and listen for the whoops and hollers.

The next trip will probably be Crescent and a chance at those 14 inchers like you caught. A word of advice for everyone. Don't forget your mosquito repellent! There's lots of snowmelt pools and they were just starting to show.

Speaking of beads, where is the best place with the best assortment. I finally found glass faceted beads in the size I was looking for (5mm) at Stamina but I know there must be more sites out there.

I have a cabin rented from June 29-Jul 2nd and am taking my two boys and my brother. My Dad and I used to go on this week for 30 years at Crescent and we slaughtered them. Hopefully again this year

I buy a lot of my beads from Stamina. I also buy from Barlow’s Tackle and EBay. My Swarovskis' I buy online from any beads.

I think you should always buy the highest quality beads you can find, it really seams to make a difference in my catch ratio.

Good luck ET
